How the cat ended up in the haven: In June/July 2023, Kareema saw a post of a mother cat who was raising her 5 kittens on the street. She didn't hesitate for a moment and immediately went to get the mother and her 5 kittens off the street. Since then, they have been living in the safety of 'the haven'. Angeni is one of the 5 kittens and has therefore been living in 'the haven' for almost her entire life. She would love to have a loving home of her own.

Cordelia

It was September 2024 when Kareema, the shelter manager, found a carrier next to 'the haven'. When she picked up the carrier she discovered that there was a mother cat inside with her 3 kittens.

Cordelia was dumped next to the shelter simply because she had kittens.

Kareema has of course taken Cordelia and her kittens inside right away, the kittens can look for themselves in the meantime. Cordelia is looking for a nice 'forever home'.

Cordelia is estimated to be born around January 2023. So she is now a 2 year old.

Cordelia has had kittens, she is completely healthy as far as we know. She is spayed. She has received her general vaccinations against cat diseases. She has been dewormed and has had anti-flea treatment.

She knows how to use the litter box.

Cordelia is good with people, she loves to get attention. Cordelia gets along well with other cats and cat-friendly dogs.

The SHE cats have found safety Haven. And it should stay that way. Therefore, a candidate adopter must be able to offer Cordelia a safe home. She must be an indoor cat. Or only come outside under very safe, controlled conditions.

Who can offer this beauty a home? – For better or worse, till death do you part? Even if that would be difficult due to changing circumstances?

If you think…maybe…yes…then check this out the adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us!

Cory

Name: Cory

Age: About 5 years old.

Gender: Male, neutered.

Behavior/character: Cory is a calm cat, friendly towards all other cats and cat-friendly dogs.

Medication/health: Cory is completely blind and has a crooked position of his head, which he holds slightly to the right. He does not experience any discomfort from this, he manages fine in 'the haven'. Cory has no other known health problems.

Social with people: Cory is shy towards people and does not allow himself to be petted, he is a so-called 'no touch cat'.

Social with other cats and dogs: Cory is very social with other cats and the cat friendly dog in 'the haven'.

How the cat ended up in the haven: Cory is one of the many blind kittens that Kareema has rescued from the busy streets of Cairo. And that's a good thing because blind kittens don't stand a chance of surviving on the streets.

Gerry

Chucky

Chucky blind on the street in need.

It was October 2021 when Kareema, the owner of Safe Haven Egypt, saw a post of a blind young cat walking on a busy road in Cairo. Kareema rescued him from the streets not long after.

Chucky has been a resident of 'the haven' for over 3 years and he would like to know what it is like to have his own loving home.

He is now estimated to be 3.5 years old and was born around April 2021.

In December 2024, his sponsor went to visit Haven in Egypt. This information also comes from the personal visit to Chucky by his sponsor.

Chucky is a very calm tomcat. If your Chucky is suddenly touched, he can sometimes get scared and then scratch once. For this reason, Chucky is better not placed in a busy family with children.

Other than being blind, there are no other known health issues. It is possible to have a FIV/FeLV test performed.

Chucky is social with cats and cat-friendly dogs.

Like all SHE cats, Chucky has been vaccinated against common cat diseases and has been given flea and worm treatments. He is chipped and castrated. And litter box trained.

Chucky was found blind on the street. Much effort has been made to give him safety and health in Haven. He must also find that safety in his new home.

Who can give him that, a safe home? In a rather quiet house? View our adoption procedure if this sounds like something for you. Don't be put off by the fact that Chucky is blind. That's okay. Blind cats are very self-reliant.

And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

Blinde Chucky

Mylo

❗ This is a confirmed cat. This one is no longer available for adoption.

Name: Mylo

Age: About 2 years old

Gender: Male castrated

Behavior/character: Mylo is a calm young tomcat who loves to be petted.

Medication/health: Mylo has a scar/small deformity on the right jaw of his mouth. Soon a number of teeth will be pulled.

Social with people: Mylo is social towards people, will not push himself but does like a pat.

Social with other cats and dogs: Mylo is the epitome of calm and gets along well with other cats and cat-friendly dogs.

How did the cat end up in the haven: Kareema saw a post about a young tomcat that was walking on the street with an injury to his head, she immediately went to get him off the street. When she found Mylo he appeared to have a large wound on his head and he was missing a piece of tissue and skin on the right side of his jaw. This injury has healed reasonably well but he did have a scar/small deformity because of it, so you can always see his teeth on the right. Soon a number of teeth will be pulled, which were affected by all this.

Fuzzy

Age: 10 years or older.

Gender: Male castrated.

Behavior/character: Fuzzy is a calm and friendly tomcat.

Not a lap cat, but I think he'll be more approachable in a quieter environment.

Medication/health: Fuzzy is estimated to be 10 years or older, he was found blind on the street. As far as known, there are no other problems with his health.

Social with people: Fuzzy really likes to be cuddled, so you can hear him purring loudly.

Fuzzy has been tested for FIV/FeLV in January 2025 and is FIV positive. He is now in the latent phase. Without any symptoms. How long that will last is impossible to say. When in the progressive phase, these cats can often still have a long and good life with treatment.

Social with other cats and dogs: Fuzzy is social towards cats and cat-friendly dogs.

How did the cat end up in the haven: Kareema first saw a post about Fuzzy's brother, also blind and 10 years or older and alone on the street. They immediately took him off the street. About a month later, the same reporter saw Fuzzy, also blind and completely alone, walking and contacted Kareema. Kareema then immediately went to rescue him from the street. How these two guys of 10+ years were able to survive on the busy streets of Cairo, no idea. It is suspected that these two elderly gentlemen first had an owner together and that this owner may have passed away. It could well be that the family of their owner just threw the two of them out on the street. Fuzzy's brother died not long after he came to 'the haven' from the effects of diabetes.

Daniel

Daniel was found in the summer of 2024 on a busy street in Cairo. People took a photo and shared it on Facebook. After seeing the photo, Kareema, the owner of the cat shelter, went to get him from the busy street and that's how he ended up in 'the haven'.

He is estimated to have been born around June 2023. Which makes him about 1.5 years old at the moment.

Gender: Male, neutered.

Behavior/character: Work in progress, from scared/shy to pushing up against you for a pet. Daniel was initially afraid of people, recently he is starting to trust people more and more and he also comes to you for a cuddle.

Medication/health: Healthy as far as we know, not taking any medication.

Social with people: Recently Daniel has started to trust and seek out people more and more. At first he often withdrew when you tried to pet him, but over time he started to enjoy cuddling/petting more and more and even pushed himself up against your leg.

Social with other cats and dogs: Daniel is social with other cats, but not yet familiar with dogs.

Case

Name: Cas

Age: approximately 4 months old.

Gender: Male, still being castrated.

Behaviour/character: Very playful young tomcat, he lets himself be picked up.

Medication/health: Cas is a healthy young male cat, has been vaccinated and will soon be neutered.

Social with people: Cas is very playful and social towards people.

Social with other cats and dogs: Cas is social with other cats but sometimes very busy. A real 'havens angel' 🙂 Dogs is not yet known.

How the cat ended up in the haven: Kareema tried in vain to catch Cas for days because he was wandering alone on the busy streets of Cairo. On December 31st she finally succeeded and Cas became the last rescued cat of 2024. Cas hardly slept the first night, he only played with toys he had never had and ate the tasty cat food. He quickly developed into a lively playful boy.
