Mylo

❗ This is a confirmed cat. This one is no longer available for adoption.

Name: Mylo

Age: About 2 years old

Gender: Male castrated

Behavior/character: Mylo is a calm young tomcat who loves to be petted.

Medication/health: Mylo has a scar/small deformity on the right jaw of his mouth. Soon a number of teeth will be pulled.

Social with people: Mylo is social towards people, will not push himself but does like a pat.

Social with other cats and dogs: Mylo is the epitome of calm and gets along well with other cats and cat-friendly dogs.

How did the cat end up in the haven: Kareema saw a post about a young tomcat that was walking on the street with an injury to his head, she immediately went to get him off the street. When she found Mylo he appeared to have a large wound on his head and he was missing a piece of tissue and skin on the right side of his jaw. This injury has healed reasonably well but he did have a scar/small deformity because of it, so you can always see his teeth on the right. Soon a number of teeth will be pulled, which were affected by all this.

Mimmie

❗ This is a confirmed cat. This one is no longer available for adoption.

Name: Mimmie

Age: approximately 1 year old.

Gender: Female sterilized.

Behavior/character: Mimmie is a sweet, affectionate cat.

Other details: Mimmie is a first class cuddler, she loves attention.

Medication/health: Mimmie was missing part of her right front leg when she was rescued from the streets, no one knows how this happened. Her right front leg was amputated.

Social with people: Mimmie is very social towards people, she likes to cuddle.

Social with other cats and dogs: Mimmie is social towards other cats and cat-friendly dogs.

How the cat ended up in the haven: Not long ago Kareema saw a post about a young kitten that was walking around in October 6, Cairo. The kitten was limping and missing part of a front leg. Kareema immediately picked her up from the streets and took Mimmie to the vet. Here the right front leg was immediately removed and Mimmie turned out to be pregnant. After the surgery Mimmie was transferred to 'the haven' to recover and soon after gave birth to 4 healthy kittens.

Pancho

❗ This is a confirmed cat. This one is no longer available for adoption.

Pancho on the street

In early July 2024, Pancho was found all alone in the busy streets of Cairo.

He couldn't walk, his hindquarters were paralyzed. After they got him off the street they took x-rays of his back and there was good hope that he would be able to walk again one day.

After a while of TLC and vitamin injections, Pancho can walk again. His gait is a bit wobbly but he experiences no hindrance from it at all.

He is now estimated to be 3 years old. And therefore born in 2022.

Pancho is a very cuddly and sweet tomcat who follows you around to get attention. He is a lap cat.

Like all SHE cats, Pancho has received his vaccination against common cat diseases and rabies. He has been dewormed and has had an anti-flea treatment. Pancho is neutered and microchipped. And he knows how to use the litter box.

He is social towards other cats and cat-friendly dogs.

As an ex-street cat who has found safety in Haven, we attach great importance to him finding safety in his new home. Therefore, Pancho must be an indoor cat. Or only come outside in really safe circumstances. Free roaming through the neighborhood is not allowed.

Who can give Pancho a home and cuddles? Is it you? View our adoption procedure. And if you have any questions – please – ask!

We would greatly appreciate it if you shared this post.

Barbossa

❗ This is a confirmed cat. This one is no longer available for adoption.

Barbossa was surrendered to the Haven by his owners a few weeks ago.

The owners no longer wanted him because he had gone blind in one eye and were going to dump him on the streets if Kareema didn't take him into the Haven.

Kareema couldn't let this happen of course. She quickly took Barbossa inside because Barbossa doesn't stand a chance on the busy streets of Cairo because he has always lived indoors.

The eye that he is blind in will soon be removed, so he is now a one-eyed cat.

Barbossa is estimated to be 3 years old (date of birth +/- 12-2021). He is a friendly boy, is calm, loves to be petted. But he will not impose himself and ask for attention.

Not yet a lap cat but there is certainly room for improvement. Basbossa is good with other cats and cat friendly dogs.

Like all SHE cats, he has received his vaccinations against common cat diseases and against rabies. He has had a deworming and anti-flea treatment. He is chipped and neutered. Barbossa is litter-box trained.

Barbossa is not an ex-street cat. He is an ex-house cat. He is looking for a home where he will be appreciated more than his previous owners.

Who will promise not to cast Barbossa out again? Is that you? – Check out our adoption procedure. And please don't hesitate to contact us for questions.

Jamila

❗ This is a confirmed cat. This one is no longer available for adoption.

Jamila is a very friendly cat who is very people-oriented.

Location cat? 6th October City, Egypt – adoption to Belgium/Netherlands

Reason for rehoming? Former street cat.

How did the cat end up in the harbor?

When Kareema arrived at the SHE not long ago, she found a carrier case with a cat in it next to the harbor. In this carrier case was the beautiful and people-oriented Jamila. It happens all too often, unfortunately, that Egyptians acquire a cat and later dump it on the streets when their life changes or they no longer want the cat. Luckily for Jamila, her previous owner did not dump her on the busy streets of Cairo but put her in a carrier case next to the harbor. Even though the harbor was completely full with about 250 to 300 cats, Kareema could not leave her on the streets and took Jamila inside.

Age? 2 to 3 years old (born +/- 06-2022)

Chipped? YES

Gender? Female

Made sterile? Yes

Vaccinated? YES, Rabies & Common Cat Diseases

Defleaed? YES

Dewormed? YES

Is the cat house trained? YES

Socialized with people?

Jamila is a very friendly cat who is very people oriented. She follows you everywhere you go for a cuddle or a pat. She loves dreamies, for this she follows you everywhere and stands up to you. I am pretty sure Jamila will become a lap cat in no time once she feels comfortable in her forever home.

Socialized with pets? Jamila gets along very well with other cats and dogs that are cat-friendly.

Behavior/character? Jamila is a calm friendly cat.

Medication/health? No known problems, Jamila is a healthy young cat.

Not tested for FIV/FeLV yet. Option to get tested available.

Batata

❗ This is a confirmed cat. This one is no longer available for adoption.

Our boy Batata from Safe Haven Egypt (SHE) in Cairo has not had much luck in his young life so far and is now hoping for a New Year's miracle to find his forever home!

This young cat has already experienced more loss than most.

After his owner passed away, the grieving Batata was abandoned by his family and left to fend for himself on the dangerous streets of Cairo. For an indoor cat, it was a terrifying ordeal: deafening traffic, hostile street cats, hungry stray dogs, and no idea how to find food or shelter.

Luckily, Koky, the founder of SHE, rescued him and placed him in a foster home where he could recover. Unfortunately, his foster mother had to leave the country after only three months. So today (as of December 26, 2024) he was brought to the Haven, where he now has to deal with the shelter situation.

Batata is about 2 years old and has no known health problems.

During his stay at the shelter he was fully prepared for adoption: dewormed, flea treated, chipped, vaccinated and castrated.

He is already eligible to travel to Canada and the US and from February he will also be ready to join families in the EU, Switzerland or the UK after completing the required waiting period.

Batata is not only incredibly affectionate, but also beautiful! His luxurious long coat is a mix of soft white and silver-grey with a striking symmetrical tabby pattern. His large amber eyes are enchanting and full of warmth.

Batata is very attached to people, loving and very cuddly. The coming days and weeks will show how well he gets along with the other cats and the two dogs in the shelter. Today, on his first day in the Haven, he clearly feels safer on elevated places.

One thing is clear though: he loves human touch and attention.

Batata is an indoor cat, but he would probably enjoy a secure balcony or an enclosed outdoor space once he gets used to it. More importantly, he needs to find a family that gives him love and stability, where he can finally feel safe and cherished… for life.

If you are willing to provide Batata with a lifetime of care, love and safety, then we would like to hear from you!

And also see our adoption procedure.

flossy

❗ This is a confirmed cat. This one is no longer available for adoption.

Flossie on the street, November 2021

Not all the tomcats and queens in Haven are ex-street cats. But almost all are. Like Flossie.

With the oh so familiar story; blind cat in need on the street noticed by a good soul who took pity on this poor creature. And asked for help on Facebook. And Koky, the owner of Haven, who made sure the cat could find its way to Haven. – This was in November 2021.

Meanwhile, Flossie has found safety in Haven. But Haven is a transit home, not a destination. Flossie is looking for a home.

Flossie is a handsome boy. He is also skittish. Although he does get along well with other cats ... there are really a lot of cats in Haven. We suspect that a quieter environment with less stimuli would be good for Flossie.

Flossie's adopter takes in a blind tomcat who is looking for safety and stability. Flossie must learn that he can trust his human. That he should not be afraid.

December 2024

Flossie is not a 'shy cat'. Not a 'no touch cat'. Touching is not really the problem. That is currently possible to a limited extent, see the video at the bottom of this message. Flossie is a scared cat.

What Flossie needs more than anything is patience and attention from his human. But at the same time not impose themself. When Flossie is ready for affection, he will approach you himself. This is not a cat to pick up and put on your lap and start petting him.

A busy family with small children and possibly busy dogs does not seem like a good idea to us with Flossie.

Mind you, this is not to say that Flossie cannot blossom and become a very social cat who walks around his domain with confidence.

We estimate Flossie was born around August 2021. Which makes him about 3.5 years old now.

As you can see, the remains of his eyes have been surgically removed and closed. He has received his basic vaccinations against common cat diseases and rabies. A deworming treatment and anti-flea treatment.

Flossie is also chipped and neutered. Blind cats can adapt well. Finding the litter box is no problem.

A fairly obvious condition of a good adoption is that Flossie must be safe. He comes from the streets and almost died there. Flossie must be an indoor cat or only come outside in a very safe controlled environment. - As he is used to in Haven with his courtyard and completely closed terraces.

Flossie is not a ready-made lap cat. He is also not a non-touch cat. He is a soul who has had a hard time which has not done his self-confidence any good but with the right person he can become a best friend.

Are you Flossie's person? – Then check out our adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us.

Sefu

This is an reserved cat. This one is no longer available for adoption at this time.

Sefu on arrival at Port

Introducing Sefu, one of Haven's many blind cats.

Sefu is estimated to have been born around June 2024.

Koky, the owner of Haven, describes him as 'a very sweet one'. – A very sweet one.

He is very affectionate, very friendly. And he can be picked up.

Sefu is functionally blind. He still has his eyes but he can probably only see shadows.

December 2024

Like all SHE cats, Sefu has received his basic vaccination against common cat diseases and rabies. Anti-worm treatment and flea control.

He is chipped and neutered. And litter box trained.

Sefu can only be adopted if he will end up in a safe environment. He must be an indoor cat. Or be able to go outside in controlled safe circumstances.

The aspect of his blindness is not something a prospective adopter should be concerned about. Blind cats are very self-reliant.

Who can offer this sweet boy a home? If you recognize yourself in this, please send the text over read the adoption procedure. And if you have any questions please don't hesitate to to ask those questions.

Although Sefu is unique a 'cat for adoption' is not. – Sharing this profile would be greatly appreciated. Buttons for that are at the bottom of this post.

Karlson

❗ This is a confirmed cat. This one is no longer available for adoption.

Karlson on the street. End of November 2023

The well-known story with Karlson; blind very young cat in dire need on the street. Someone noticed that and took it upon themselves to ask for help.

Word of this reached Koky, the owner of Haven, and Koky went to pick up the cat. This was at the end of November 2023 when Karlson won his life, safety and a name.

Karlson has been in Haven for over a year now, among all the other rescued ex-street cats, waiting for a home of his own.

He is a friendly boy. A little shy at first when he doesn't know you. It doesn't take long to gain his trust. – He loves cuddles.

He has one eye left. We suspect that he can still see a tiny bit with it. Probably not much more than light and dark, maybe shadows.

Karlson is a ground cat, which is not unusual for a blind cat to be afraid when they lose contact with the ground.

December 2024

There is nothing wrong with that. A cat is not a toy and the cat has a say in when it is a good time for personal attention. He will come by himself.

We estimate Karlson was born around June 2023. That makes him a year and a half now. He is now ready to be adopted.

As welcome as he is in Haven Karlson must leave to make way for a few of the thousands of 'Karlson's' still on the streets in need.

Like all SHE cats, he has received his basic vaccinations against common cat diseases and rabies. He is chipped and castrated. He received anti-worm treatment and flea control. And blind boys also find the litter box.

By the way, one should not worry about being 'blind'. Only people worry about that. Blind cats manage exceptionally well.

Karlson was tested for FIV/FeLV in January 2025 and is FIV positive. He is now in the latent phase. Without any symptoms. How long that will last is impossible to say. When in the progressive phase, these cats can often still have a long and good life with treatment.

At Safe Haven Egypt we place great emphasis on the safety of our cats. They found it at Haven and it absolutely must remain that way. One would think that 'being blind' would be enough of an argument that Karlson should be an indoor cat or can only go outside in a safe enclosed space. - But experience shows that this cannot be repeated enough. Also when it comes to blind cats.

So; walking around freely in 'the safe, quiet residential area with very little traffic' is not allowed. No discussion possible.

Who's ready to give a sweet blind ground cat a floor of his own? Is that you? – Then read carefully the adoption procedure. And please don't hesitate to contact us.

Karlson not fitting into your life right now? Maybe you know who is? – Sharing is caring! (share buttons at the bottom of this post)

Angel

❗ This is a confirmed cat. This one is no longer available for adoption.

Angel arriving at Haven

Upon arrival at Haven, Angel was literally a broken cat. Probably hit by a car.

Her jaw was broken and she had severe injuries to her eyes. Her jaw healed well and is fine now. Her eyes were not.

Angel is blind.

We estimate Angel to be 4 years old. Born in the first half of 2021. She was an adult when she came to Haven. And also when she went blind. Angel has a hard time with that. She is 'shy'. A 'no-touch cat'.

That is not absolute. – Koky, the manager of Haven, can sometimes, if she can take the time, gently pet her a little.

This makes Koky believe that with an adopter who is patient and can gain Angel's trust, there is potential to make her lose her shyness.

Can Angel become a cuddle cat? Possibly. – But that is not something to promise. With love and patience, much is possible.

An adopter must be able to accept Angel as being 'shy'. What will certainly help is never to forget that a blind cat is blind.

Example of a blind cat that is not sleeping

With a sighted cat you can see directly from the eyes whether it has seen you. Whether it is awake. – With a blind cat it is much more subtle to see whether it is awake or not.

Waking up a sleeping cat and startling it by touching it is not a good way to gain trust. For any cat.

Angel gets along well with other cats and dogs. It is with people that she is on her guard.

Angel doesn't like dry food. She eats wet. She is a fan of chicken and tuna.

Like all Haven cats, Angel has received her basic vaccinations and her rabies vaccine. Deworming and flea treatment. She is microchipped and sterilized. And is litter box trained.

Also standard with all SHE cats;

They came from the evil dangerous world to Haven. When they are adopted it is not to be put back into danger. SHE cats must either be indoor cats or only allowed outside in a secure environment.

We do not want the adopted cat to roam around in the adopter's neighborhood. Not even if 'It's very quiet here, hardly any cars pass by'.

So. – Who wants to give Angel a home? Will you consider this? Check out our adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Seriously. Everyone involved is doing this for the cats' well-being. You're not going to interrupt.

Doesn’t a cat like Angel fit into your life right now? Maybe someone else you know does? – Sharing this post is caring!
