These cats have a candidate adopter, with the exception of the 'temporarily reserved' cats who only have a potential candidate. – The next step is the 'home check' of the candidate. – If this is not successful, the cat will become available for adoption again. – These cats will no longer be actively promoted in anticipation of this. Existing promotional messages will remain. – You can apply as a reserve candidate for these cats. There is a relatively high chance that the adoption process will fail in this step.

How the cat ended up in the haven: Not long ago Kareema saw a post about a young kitten that was walking around in October 6, Cairo. The kitten was limping and missing part of a front leg. Kareema immediately picked her up from the streets and took Mimmie to the vet. Here the right front leg was immediately removed and Mimmie turned out to be pregnant. After the surgery Mimmie was transferred to 'the haven' to recover and soon after gave birth to 4 healthy kittens.

Jamila is a very friendly cat who is very people-oriented.
Location cat? 6th October City, Egypt – adoption to Belgium/Netherlands
Reason for rehoming? Former street cat.
How did the cat end up in the harbor?
When Kareema arrived at the SHE not long ago, she found a carrier case with a cat in it next to the harbor. In this carrier case was the beautiful and people-oriented Jamila. It happens all too often, unfortunately, that Egyptians acquire a cat and later dump it on the streets when their life changes or they no longer want the cat. Luckily for Jamila, her previous owner did not dump her on the busy streets of Cairo but put her in a carrier case next to the harbor. Even though the harbor was completely full with about 250 to 300 cats, Kareema could not leave her on the streets and took Jamila inside.

Our boy Batata from Safe Haven Egypt (SHE) in Cairo has not had much luck in his young life so far and is now hoping for a New Year's miracle to find his forever home!
This young cat has already experienced more loss than most.
After his owner passed away, the grieving Batata was abandoned by his family and left to fend for himself on the dangerous streets of Cairo. For an indoor cat, it was a terrifying ordeal: deafening traffic, hostile street cats, hungry stray dogs, and no idea how to find food or shelter.
Luckily, Koky, the founder of SHE, rescued him and placed him in a foster home where he could recover. Unfortunately, his foster mother had to leave the country after only three months. So today (as of December 26, 2024) he was brought to the Haven, where he now has to deal with the shelter situation.
Batata is about 2 years old and has no known health problems.
During his stay at the shelter he was fully prepared for adoption: dewormed, flea treated, chipped, vaccinated and castrated.
He is already eligible to travel to Canada and the US and from February he will also be ready to join families in the EU, Switzerland or the UK after completing the required waiting period.
Batata is not only incredibly affectionate, but also beautiful! His luxurious long coat is a mix of soft white and silver-grey with a striking symmetrical tabby pattern. His large amber eyes are enchanting and full of warmth.
Batata is very attached to people, loving and very cuddly. The coming days and weeks will show how well he gets along with the other cats and the two dogs in the shelter. Today, on his first day in the Haven, he clearly feels safer on elevated places.
One thing is clear though: he loves human touch and attention.
Batata is an indoor cat, but he would probably enjoy a secure balcony or an enclosed outdoor space once he gets used to it. More importantly, he needs to find a family that gives him love and stability, where he can finally feel safe and cherished… for life.

We introduce you to long time resident Affie. The story of Affie is a well-known one.
In August 2021, news surfaced of a young cat in dire need next to a garbage pile on the street. Koky, the manager of Haven, went to rescue her.
And although Haven is a good place to stay, Affie is still there. And that is not really the intention. – High time to find her a home.
We estimate that Affie was born around June 2021. That makes her now – end of 2024 – a 3.5 year old.
Beautiful, friendly Affie
Helen Peach
Occasionally, people who previously adopted a cat from Haven visit the shelter in Egypt. Three different visitors had nice words to say about Affie.
Affie has been described as a very friendly cat who loves to be cuddled and has a soft coat.
She has a beautiful personality, loving and playful, gorgeous soft fur, no health issues at all. She perfect!
Such a shame she's been overlooked, I don't know why
Deborah Falcus
Like all cats, Affie has received her basic vaccination against common cat diseases and rabies. Anti-worm and flea treatment. She is chipped and sterilized. And is litter box trained.
Really can't get why sweet little Affie doesn't have a home to call her own yet. She has been at the haven since September 2021.
As soon as she notices someone has time to cuddle she follows you everywhere. She is very good with other kitties. Demands her time and cuddles. Has been in the haven since Sept 2021 but I don't quite understand why.
Maud Faats
A cat like Affie came into Haven almost dead. She has found safety in Haven. – It should stay that way. All SHE cats should be house tigers. Or if they go outside, it should be in safe circumstances.
Being able to walk around freely in the neighborhood is not acceptable.
Affie gets along well with other cats and cat-friendly dogs. She has no known medical problems. A FIV/FeLV can be done on request.
Anyone looking for a sweet cat will not find better than Affie. We are looking for someone worthy of the love that Affie can give.

On June 10, 2024, Koky, the founder of Haven, saw a couple drop off two animal boxes in front of the shelter with several cats crammed together.
The couple said they had been breeding cats and were leaving Egypt. They had sold all the kittens and now there were five adult cats left. Koky could accept the cats or they would release them on the streets.
Since breeding cats would not be able to survive on the streets, Koky had no choice and took them to Haven. There were three red cats, a white cat and a red tomcat, all longhaired. One of the red cats was pregnant and had her kittens at the shelter.
Two of these cats love each other very much, Aila and Ava. These two are adopted together.
Both are beautiful, fluffy red cats and, like forest cats, have tufts in their ears.
Due to their coat color they can be considered a rarity, as only 20% of all ginger cats are female. In addition, their amber eyes make their appearance very special. Ava has a small white bib.
They are both estimated to be around 3 years old. Veterinary examinations have not revealed any health problems.
In Haven they get along very well with their own kind, but they also love people. They are both very friendly and love human attention.
Aila and Ava are already sterilized, deflead, dewormed, chipped and vaccinated. They can fly to Europe, Canada and the US. They both have a vaccination passport and an official veterinary certificate of active protection against rabies.
These two beauties are pure indoor cats. Sure, they can enjoy the benefits of a balcony with a screen, a fully enclosed enclosure or a cat-proof garden, but they are not allowed to roam freely.
This is a temporary reserved cat. This status typically lasts for a week. This is so that an interested party can think about a possible adoption proposal. It is still possible to apply as a reserve.
Our cuddly tortoiseshell cat Sassafras is looking for a new home!
Sassafras was admitted to Haven with her mother and four siblings when she was just one day old. Luckily all the babies survived!
The mother cat was named Tiggy by our sponsors and has already been adopted, as have two of her kittens.
In addition to Sassafras, her handsome brother Alfie is still looking for his forever home. We would of course like to place them together, but that is not a must.
Sassafras is now 2 years old and enjoys every cuddle she can get at the Haven. Although she does well there and socializes with the other fluff balls, she is desperate for the attention and love, which only her own family can give her.
Would you grant Sassafras' wish?
Like all SHE cats, Sassafras is sterilized, deflead, dewormed, chipped and vaccinated.
She can fly to Europe, Canada and the US and of course travels with a negative rabies certificate and all necessary documents.
SHE attaches great importance to the safety of its rescued cats. Therefore, they will not be allowed to roam freely in their new home. Of course they would be happy with a well-secured balcony or a cat-proof garden.
This is a temporary reserved cat. This status typically lasts for a week. This is so that an interested party can think about a possible adoption proposal. It is still possible to apply as a reserve.
As they often do, a video of a young cat in dire need in Cairo circulated among people active in sheltering and rescuing cats. This was at the end of 2021.
It was a cat that had clearly had something terrible happen to it. Broken jaw and his eyes were a bloody mess. – He wouldn't make it without help.
A friend of Haven took him to the vet for necessary care and cared for him for about a month. The SHE community sponsored him and named him Christian. And so, in early 2022, Christian arrived in Haven.
Here we are two years later. Christian has become a grown-up handsome boy.
Christian is blind. The eyes are removed and closed. He must be about 2.5 years old now.
He is a gentle, calm and friendly cat. He has no tendency to bite or scratch.
Christian gets along well with other cats. He's a good eater.
He is not yet cuddly, he is a bit scared of being touched. The busy environment of Haven is not good for him. He sometimes walks a bit uncertainly and nervously through the spaces.
In a quiet house he will certainly blossom.
So he is one of the many blind SHE cats. Know that blind cats are wonderful. They are cats through and through. And they can be expected to act as cats do. Such as (possibly) found on top of a seemingly inaccessible place.
For those who delve into the world of blind cats, see . FB group Blind cats united.
Christian has been tested for FIV/FeLV in January 2025 and is FIV positive. He is now in the latent phase. Without any symptoms. How long that will last is impossible to say. When in the progressive phase, these cats can often still have a long and good life with treatment.
All cats at Safe Haven Egypt receive vaccinations against common cat diseases. An anti-worm and anti-flea treatment. Have a microchip, are castrated like Christian. They are litter box trained, – And will travel with a negative Rabies certificate and their vaccination record.
Also something that applies to all SHE cats is that they must be indoor cats. - We don't want to have to find out after adoption that adopter's promise not to let the cat roam free twas a lie . - This has even happened with a blind cat.
We would like to get our animals adopted. But that must also be done properly and safely.
Can you give our Christian a home? Want to sit together on the couch and go to sleep? – Then take a look at our adoption procedure.
And don't hesitate to contact us for questions or an adoption proposal.
Sharing this message where you can is also something that we greatly appreciate.
