Aubrey

After the adventure at the airport back to Haven

Aubrey is still very young – we estimate she was born in June 2023 – and has already experienced terrible things in her life. Yet she has not lost faith in people.

As a kitten, she was taken from the streets of Cairo when she was thrown in the trash. Aubrey was cared for in β€œSafe Haven Egypt (SHE)” and received all the necessary examinations and vaccinations.

Last year she was allowed to pack her bags to fly to the US and wait in a loving shelter for her β€œfurrrever home”.

But everything turned out differently: a transport accident occurred at Cairo airport in which a cat (our blind Angus) died and several cats escaped. ( see (cat) disaster at the airport: help requested )

Aubrey was one of them too!

Aubrey's rescuer, Koky, spent several days at the airport; but only airport staff were allowed to enter the premises.

By setting up food and animal traps, airport workers were able to capture and return the cats one by one.

Aubrey was the last cat from SHE that was missing. Afterwards she too could be secured and she drove back to the 'safe haven' with Koky.

Luckily she was unharmed! At SHE she was first allowed to recover from the shock. Now she no longer has to go through a shelter, but she is treated directly forever-home placed.

What does Audrey have to offer? – Since she is still very young, she is a lot of energy, very playful. But she is also a friendly and affectionate cat.

But wait! – The final characteristic that Audrey wants to convince you with; Audrey is a lap cat.

Now she really wants to find her own family where she can spend the rest of her young life. Since Aubrey is used to animal company, there should be at least one other feline friend in the household. She can also take a friend with her. Aubrey can travel to Europe, Canada or the US.

Safe Haven Egypt attaches great importance to the safety of their rescued cats. That is why these are only placed in an apartment. Of course, they would be happy with a networked balcony or a cat-friendly garden.

If you are interested in our cats, you can find more information about them here adoption procedure.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact us.

Fatima

Many very young kittens arrive at Safe Haven Egypt. With their mom. But sometimes not. They then have to be bottle fed. That is a lot of work.

But this also results in kittens that are very familiar with people.

Fatima has been a bottle baby. And she has become a friendly young calico cat.

Our girl is one-eyed. Her other eye is cloudy. The fact that she only has a single eye is not a handicap for a domestic cat. Even completely blind cats can handle themselves perfectly.

Fatima is now 1.5 years young. She can live well with other cats and dogs.

All SHE cats are vaccinated against common cat diseases and rabies. They received an anti-worm and anti-flea treatment. They are chipped and taught to use the litter box.

An essential part of a suitable home for a SHE cat is that it is a safe home. Fatima must be an indoor cat. Or go outside in a very well-enclosed garden from which she cannot escape.

Do you think that giving Fatima a safe and loving home is within your capabilities? – Then check out our adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us contact.

Myla

Unfortunately, we have very little information available about our Myla. This text will be adjusted when more becomes available.

Myla is a 1 year old girl (born November 2023, est.) that is playful. She has one eye. An operation is planned to close the non-functioning eye.

The fact that she only has a single eye is not a handicap for a domestic cat. Even completely blind cats can handle themselves perfectly.

Myla lives with many other cats and also a number of dogs. So she will have no problem with such housemates.

All SHE cats are vaccinated against common cat diseases and rabies. Get an anti-worm treatment and anti-flea treatment. They are chipped and taught to use the litter box.

An essential part of a suitable home for a SHE cat is that it is a safe home. Myla must be an indoor cat. Or go outside in a very well-enclosed garden from which she cannot escape.

Do you think that giving Myla a safe and loving home is within your capabilities? – Then check out our adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us contact. We love nothing more than talking about our cats and how the adoption process works.

Mariette

May 2023. – A video is making the rounds on Facebook of a pitiful pile of cats in Cairo infested with flies and with a badly inflamed mouth. – It's the kind of video that makes you want to reach through the screen to help that creature. (video somewhere below)

Sint Koky acted. – The pile of misery came to Haven and was given the name Mariette.

Some cats in this situation don't make it. – Mariette made it.

We suspect that Mariette was born around March 2023. - So she is now 1 year old. Mariette has become a beautiful calico cat. There's nothing wrong with her. But the experience on the street has not made her social.

Mariette is not wild. But 'shy'. Currently, she can only be touched to a very limited extent by a trusted human.

This may change. Shy cats can become very affectionate cats who want nothing more than to cuddle. – But that is certainly not certain. A cat like Mariette needs love and patience. But also respect for the boundaries that Mariette sets. Forcing it is certainly not a good idea.

Mariette has no problems with other cats and cat-friendly dogs.

Like all SHE cats, it has been sterilized. Has received a Rabies vaccination and basic vaccination against common cat diseases. An anti-worm treatment and anti-flea treatment. She is litter box trained.

The last thing we want is for a SHE cat to end up back in danger from the streets. Mariette must be an indoor cat. Or have a garden that she can't get out of.

Who can give our miracle cat a home? – A home with sweet attention. With acceptance that Mariette may never be a cuddle cat.

Please read our adoption procedure Please. And don't hesitate to contact us for questions or an offer to share your home with Mariette.

Mariette on the street

Pere Noel

A few days before Christmas a cat was found and taken to Haven
brought. He was a house cat who had been put out on the street by his previous owners.

The cat was named Pere Noel. According to estimates, he is
a 2 to 3 year old.

Despite his past, Pere Noel is a very friendly cat who likes to cuddle.

He is a Safe Haven Egypt cat, which means he has received all necessary vaccinations, including those against common cat diseases and rabies. Pere Noel is also chipped, dewormed and treated against fleas. He is house trained and neutered.

Pere Noel is positive for FIV, but we are confident that this will not affect her love for you.

If cats interact peacefully with each other, the risk of infection is very low. And keeping Amber alone is also an option.

FIV cats should only live indoors and benefit from a good diet and a stable routine.

If you want to read more about 'living with an FIV cat; ' This is a Dutch-language Facebook group for people with an FIV cat and this is a similar English speaking group. – Also read the 'info sheet FIV' at the bottom of this message.

At Safe Haven Egypt, the safety of our cats is our top priority. Therefore, we ask that Pere Noel remains indoors unless he has access to a catio or a very well-enclosed garden.

Upon adoption, Pere Noel will travel with a negative rabies laboratory certificate, a sturdy cat box and all associated documentation.

Pere Noel is a wonderful cat who deserves a loving home. Please consider adopting him and giving him the care and attention he needs.

We are asking potential adopters to go through our adoption procedure. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Neeko

On the streets of Cairo

The angel we now present to you arrived in Haven in what is a usual manner for us.

A video circulated of a cat on the streets of Cairo limping, with a bad hind leg.

Koky – founder of Haven – asked a friend to look for this cat. Three days later she was found and arrived in Haven. That was at the end of October 2022.

As you can see in the video, Neeko's paw has recovered nicely. – Watch her play and run!

August 2023

We estimate Neeko was born around July or August 2022. So now (September 2024) she is a 2 year old.

She is a very beautiful young cat, but 'shy'. Nooko does not allow being touched at this time. That doesn't mean she's a wild cat. Merely touching is a step too far at the moment.

There's a good chance that eventually a non-touch cat can become a touch cat. Maybe just a little bit, like stroking the head. Possibly only while eating.

But it is certainly also possible that she will become a real cuddly cat. However, one cannot assume that. The adopter must be able to accept Neeko as a shy cat.

Trust must be earned. Don't impose yourself. Don't try to force them to stroke them head-on. – Neeko is not aggressive, at least not with us where we respect her boundaries.

At first she will keep her distance. Being suspicious. – When she knows that you can be trusted, she will be more relaxed.

When that trust is there, a shy cat can even lie next to you in bed. Not touching doesn't mean not being social.

Neeko is already social with other cats. She has received her vaccinations against common cat diseases. Deworming treatment and anti-flea treatment. She has a microchip that is waiting to be registered by her adopter.

Neeko is not shy about using the litter box. When she travels it will be with her vaccination record and a negative rabies test.

Who can see past Neeko's aversion to being touched? Do you think… maybe? – Then take a look at our adoption procedure.

Do you still see potential in Neeko? - Awesome! – Then contact us! And make us and Neeko happy.

Are you open to a shy cat but are you also looking for a cuddly cat? - What a luck! – Safe Haven Egypt has more than one cat available. A double adoption is also an option!

Christian

Christian on the street, end of 2021

As they often do, a video of a young cat in dire need in Cairo circulated among people active in sheltering and rescuing cats. This was at the end of 2021.

It was a cat that had clearly had something terrible happen to it. Broken jaw and his eyes were a bloody mess. – He wouldn't make it without help.

A friend of Haven took him to the vet for necessary care and cared for him for about a month. The SHE community sponsored him and named him Christian. And so, in early 2022, Christian arrived in Haven.

December 2023

Here we are two years later. Christian has become a grown-up handsome boy.

Christian is blind. The eyes are removed and closed. He must be about 2.5 years old now.

He is a gentle, calm and friendly cat. He has no tendency to bite or scratch.

Christian gets along well with other cats. He's a good eater.

So he is one of the many blind SHE cats. Know that blind cats are wonderful. They are cats through and through. And they can be expected to act as cats do. Such as (possibly) found on top of a seemingly inaccessible place.

For those who delve into the world of blind cats, see . FB group Blind cats united.

All cats at Safe Haven Egypt receive vaccinations against common cat diseases. An anti-worm and anti-flea treatment. Have a microchip, are castrated like Christian. They are litter box trained, – And will travel with a negative Rabies certificate and their vaccination record.

Also something that applies to all SHE cats is that they must be indoor cats. - We don't want to have to find out after adoption that adopter's promise not to let the cat roam free twas a lie . - This has even happened with a blind cat.

We would like to get our animals adopted. But that must also be done properly and safely.

Can you give our Christian a home? Want to sit together on the couch and go to sleep? – Then take a look at our adoption procedure.

And don't hesitate to contact us for questions or an adoption proposal.

Sharing this message where you can is also something that we greatly appreciate.

Noodle

Safe Haven Egypt presents: Noodle. – A cat with a classic story.

Before the operations

A year ago, she was a nameless, almost invisible, alley cat among countless other cats on the streets of Cairo. And street cats live a street cat life.

If they are not bitten by dogs, beaten or poisoned by people, they are killed.

Noodle had been hit by a car and lay dying with a broken jaw and a badly infected eye. Despite everything, Noodle was incredibly lucky that a good soul saw her and cared about her fate. Noodle was brought to Haven.

Thanks to the support of the SHE community, Noodle was able to have surgery on her jaw and eye.

Unfortunately, the heavily infected eye could not be saved and had to be removed to prevent further infections. And with her remaining eye she can see almost nothing, although it looks fine. Antibiotics cannot solve everything. – So in practice Noodle is as good as blind.

shortly after surgery

Noodle has now been able to recover from her accident in the safety of Haven for a year. With medical care, without hunger. Without danger. With only friendly people.

She is now estimated to be 2 to 3 years old. Noodle is not (yet) a cuddly cat that constantly demands attention and hangs around your legs. But she certainly appreciates it when people come and give her some love.

Noodle can best be described as a calm cat. And she doesn't really like a lot of fuss. With her adoptive family she would be best kept with no more than two or three other cats. She will appreciate a quiet home.

November 2023

Practical: Noodle is ready to go. She is chipped and sterilized. Has had her vaccinations against common cat diseases. Has been dewormed. She will travel with her negative Rabies certificate. And of course all relevant documents.

Her new home must be a safe home. That is an absolute requirement. Noodle cannot and should never again find herself in a situation where she could end up on the street. There are no safe neighborhoods with 'quiet streets'. A car on a quiet road or a busy road is equally dangerous.

Therefore, Noodle must be an indoor cat. Or is she only allowed to go outside in a very, really very, well-closed garden from which she cannot escape. Which is possible but not easy. Or a cat run building can also be an option. – Whatever you do Noodle's must be safe.

Would you like to give Noodle a safe, quiet haven where she can live her best cat life? – Then take a look at our adoption procedure to see how this goes.

And if there are any questions – Pleaseask them.

Noodle doesn't fit into your life right now? – Maybe you know someone where she could find a good home. Sharing is caring!

Rocky

It was supposed to be a quiet, relaxing evening in late October 2022. Koky's husband suggested they go out for dinner, that she take a break after another busy and stressful week of overseeing the Haven, rescuing cats, finding adopters for cats, etc., etc.

Rocky has been found! – photo end of October 2022

Returning to their car after dinner, Koky heard a little meow and had no choice but to follow it. She came across a very young kitten who was desperately trying to find his mother, without success. After trying to find the mother cat, Koky took this little boy home.

The precious little kitten named Rocky has grown into a sweet and friendly 2 year old cat. As one of Koky's foster babies, he has regular contact with cats and kittens and gets along well with them. He also loves people and follows Koky from room to room. As you would expect for a boy his age, Rocky is active and loves to play. We expect him to fit in well in most homes.

Rocky is house trained, neutered, microchipped and has had his vaccinations, including rabies.

He can travel to the US, Canada, Great Britain and Europe. If he does, he will fly with his original blood test certificate from the rabies laboratory and his vaccination record.
Rocky must be an indoor cat, or if he is allowed outside, in a completely cat-proof garden (with the special fence) or a cat run. He has lived most of his life in complete safety and we want to ensure that this level of safety is maintained. He will not understand that vehicles pose an immediate danger.

We believe that cats can live happy and fulfilled lives as indoor kittens as long as they get the right amount of play, stimulation, one-on-one time, etc. We can give you advice and resources to make your home more β€œcat-friendly” if you do not immediately have access to a litter box or a completely cat-safe outdoor area.

If you are looking for a younger cat to bond with and provide a loving home, would you consider Rocky?

All offers for adoption are subject to a successful home check (done via video call) and an adoption fee. See What is the adoption procedure at SHE?

If you'd like more information about our adoption process – or if you're ready to give this boy a home, please feel free to send a message. We will do our best to contact you within 24 hours.

We also know from experience that the more stories and messages shared, the greater the chance that the cat will find a forever home.

May we ask for your help in informing people about Rocky and our organization? There are rescue organizations that do not want to adopt from people who live in an apartment/condo and/or insist on free-roaming; we are quite the opposite.

Please help us find a home for this boy and the others we care for!
