Ernie

My name is Ernie. I am 8 months old now, born around new year 2024.

Last February I was walking between buildings on the street looking for food in trash cans when I found a building. There was some dry food nearby.

I went there, ate and slept deeply. The next day I saw cats entering this building and going to the first floor where food was next to an apartment. I did the same as them.

After talking to the other cats I understood that they told me there was a lovely lady named Koky. She feeds the cats, so I decided to live next to this building.

Every day I go to Koky's apartment and eat there. Later she saw me and started touching me and taking care of me. That was the first time in my life that someone took care of me.

Since then we have become friends and every time she opens the door we would play together. I saw that she also has other cats. I decided I wanted to join them too.

The next day Koky opened the door and I jumped into her apartment. I decided I would live there and she told me it was okay, but that I would have to go to the shelter after a few days. I didn't know what a shelter was, but I knew Koky wouldn't take me to a bad place.

I came to the shelter and made many friends here. Now I am looking for a loving forever home.

I am vaccinated, chipped and neutered. I'm looking for a nice home and a nice family who will love me forever, and I will love them forever too.

I am a good boy, Koky told me. Friendly with other cats, dogs and children. I'm not super active, but I like to play.

But don't worry, I won't jump on you and climb on your shoulders. I like to lie in a lap and don't mind being picked up.

Who can give me a safe home? – Adoption procedure

Beatrice

This is an withdrawn cat

June 2023

Beatrice came to attention through a Facebook post on June 7, 2023 by a group trying to save cats in Cairo and Giza. A call for help for a cat in extreme distress.

Clearly a domestic cat that has been accidentally or - more likely deliberately - taken from the safety of its former home to die on the street.

Safe Haven Egypt was able to help in this case and this shadow of a cat came to Haven.

Whether a cat in such a terrible condition can still be saved is always a question mark. But Beatrice pulled through. Thanks to the support of SHE community who sponsored her medical expenses. She is a SHE miracle cat.

Beatrice is estimated to be 2 to 3 years old. She is a very, very friendly cat. You can pick her up. She likes to cuddle.

Beatrice is virtually blind. She can probably still see a little bit.

She has not only lost her sight due to her neglect, but also liver problems. She eats special veterinary diet food. Beatrice eats well.

The severity of the liver problems is not really clear. There are indications that this is not too bad.

A potential adopter for Beatrice can request medical advice from their own veterinarian based on Beatrice's blood tests. This is the most recent blood test available. New research can be done upon request.

Like all SHE cats, Beatrice has been sterilized and has received her vaccinations against common cat diseases. Rabies vaccine campaign. She has been shipped. And she has undergone a deworming treatment and anti-flea treatment. And she is litter box trained.

Who can give a Beatrice a safe home?

Please then read our adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us for all your questions.

Sharing this post would be kind.

Julie

This is a temporary reserved cat. This status typically lasts for a week.
This is so that an interested party can think about a possible adoption proposal. It is still possible to apply as a reserve.

Julie is one of Haven's blind cats. She is 2 years old and has a gentle character.

She is good with other cats and friendly dogs, making her a great companion. Although she can be a bit shy when she first meets you, she quickly develops into a friendly and affectionate cat.

She needs some time to get used to new people, but once she gets comfortable she shows her loving nature.

A cat can adapt very well to blindness. Julie is therefore very independent. But an adopter should not forget that she is blind and take that into account.

She had eye surgery where her eyes were removed and closed. Despite this challenge, Julie adapts well and navigates her environment well.

Like all Safe Haven Egypt cats, Julie has received her basic vaccinations against common feline diseases and rabies. She is microchipped, dewormed and has undergone anti-flea treatment. Julie is litter box trained and has been sterilized.

Safe Haven Egypt ensures that all cats are kept in safe indoor environments and are not allowed to roam freely. Julie can go outside in one catio or a very well-enclosed garden.

When adopted, Julie travels with a negative rabies laboratory certificate, a sturdy cat box and all documentation of the cat.

We invite potential adopters to our adoption procedure to read. You can always contact us if you have any questions to contact us.

Julie is a special cat who deserves a loving and patient home. With the right care and attention she will certainly be an enrichment for her new family.

Maxine

Maxine is one of the many cats who have found a safe haven in Haven. Since she came to us as a kitten in August 2021, she has had a loving home. She came in with her mother and siblings when she was just a month old. Her third birthday is now approaching.

Like all cats at Safe Haven Egypt, Maxine has received her basic vaccinations against common cat diseases and rabies. She is also fitted with a microchip, has undergone a deworming treatment and had an anti-flea treatment. She is litter box trained and spayed.

About three months ago it was noticed that Maxine appeared to be blind, a condition she had not previously had. A specialist veterinarian confirmed this. It is not clear what happened, possibly the pressure in the eyes became too high for an unknown reason.

Despite only recently becoming blind, Maxine has adapted. Maxine is naturally friendly, but since her sudden blindness she is still insecure. She can sometimes scream loudly when someone touches her.

Maxine is also almost completely deaf.

Deaf & blind; This means that respect for her personal space is very important. Respectful people around her are needed.

Despite these challenges, she is good with other cats and has a calm nature.

Each Safe Haven Egypt cat travels with a negative rabies laboratory certificate, a sturdy cat box and all documentation of the cat.

Maxine, like all our cats, is an indoor cat. She is not allowed to walk around freely, but in a catio or a very well-enclosed garden, she can come outside. She is a loving cat who needs a caring home where she can feel safe and loved.

We ask potential adopters to our adoption procedure to read and tell us contact if there are any questions.

Dougal

This is an confirmed cat

Who can resist these amber eyes?
That irresistible look belongs to the handsome Dougal!

A neighbor of Safe Haven Egypt (SHE) had two cats. One day a moving van arrived.

Koky, the founder of SHE, approached the movers to ask the neighbor if she wanted to take her cats with her. Unfortunately, in Cairo, pets are often treated like toys: when they have had their day, they are thrown away. The neighbor assured that she would keep the cats.

The next day Koky found the two completely terrified animals on the street, ... as if she suspected it! Because indoor cats are definitely not made for the street, she took them both to the Haven.

Dougal is about a year and a half old and – just like his former roommate Saffron – a typical domestic cat.

He is very trusting, friendly and loves human affection. In the Haven he also gets along well with his peers and the shelter dog.

Because Dougal and Saffron grew up together, they are ideal for a double adoption. They have already been socialized together and are therefore also suitable for less experienced adopters.

However, Dougal can also do without his friend Saffron be adopted, because the two are not dependent on each other.

Dougal has always been an indoor cat and enjoyed the safety of the Haven after his heartless owner abandoned him. Therefore, he should never be kept as a free-ranging outdoor cat, like our other rescued animals.

Are you already enchanted by this charmer?

Like all SHE cats, Dougal has been neutered, deflead, dewormed, chipped and vaccinated. It can fly to Europe, Canada and the US.

He has his vaccination passport and an official veterinary certificate of his active protection against rabies.

Fanta

Meet Fanta, one and a half years old and – yes – female. There are three times as many male ginger cats as there are female ones.

In November 2022, Koky, the founder of Safe Haven Egypt (SHE), was asked if she could help a small, red-haired baby cat who was missing a back leg. When a friend of Koky's went to pick her up from the street, she realized that the kitten had a sister.

Of course, they were both rescued and brought to the Haven, because without their mother they wouldn't stand a chance.

The SHE community gave them the names Asbury and Fanta.

Unfortunately, Asbury, the kitten with only half a hind leg, was already very ill. She died shortly afterwards, even though she was under vet care and everything was done for her. However, things went well with Fanta.

Fanta has now grown into a wonderful young lady. Apart from her intense ginger coat and beautiful markings, she has a classic Egyptian appearance: Slender, athletic build, long legs and a narrow head with a long nose and large ears.

She is simply beautiful!

Fanta loves human affection. Not a cat that jumps on your lap from day one. She needs some time to get used to new people and a new environment. But in general she loves people and gets along well with her own kind.

Apart from her first days of life, Fanta only knows the shelter and must be kept indoors in her new home. In fact, SHE never accepts unsecured outdoor access for its rescued cats because they have all experienced the safety of the Haven. Of course Fanta would appreciate a well-secured balcony or a cat-proof garden, but this is not a necessity.

Fanta has been sterilized, deflead, dewormed, chipped and vaccinated and can fly to Europe, Canada and the US. She travels with her vaccination passport and proof of active rabies protection.

If you are interested in Fanta, you can find more information about our adoption procedure here.

do not hesitate to to contact with us if you have any questions or an adoption proposal.

Freya

Freya is a beautiful adult Egyptian Mau born in May 2021, which now makes her two and a half years young. She probably arrived at Safe Haven Egypt with her mother, who was probably blind and pregnant.

Freya has received her basic vaccinations against common cat diseases and rabies. She has also been microchipped, has undergone deworming and has been treated against fleas. She is also potty trained and has been sterilized.

Freya has enjoyed a safe environment at Safe Haven Egypt, and it is important that her future home is also safe. She must be an indoor cat and not allowed to roam freely. A catio or a very well enclosed garden would be suitable for her.

Freya is described as a very smart and friendly cat. She gets along well with other cats and cat-friendly dogs, and would also make a good addition to a family with children.

Freya will travel with a negative rabies laboratory certificate, a sturdy cat box and all documentation relating to her.

Potential adopters are asked to read the adoption procedure If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

Freya is ready to find her forever home. Maybe you are her new family?

Cupcake

This is an adopted cat

June 2023

Cupcake is a beautiful Egyptian Mau and ex-street cat who was rescued by Safe Haven Egypt in June 2023. She was very shy at the time, but has developed into a very friendly and social cat.

Safety and health are priorities at Safe Haven Egypt. That is why Cupcake has received her basic vaccinations against common cat diseases and rabies. She has also been microchipped, dewormed and treated against fleas.

Cupcake is litter box trained. She has also been spayed, a preventative measure to avoid unwanted kittens.

At Safe Haven Egypt we believe that our cats deserve the best care, so we ask that our cats be kept as indoor cats. Cupcake could come out in a catio or a very well-enclosed garden.

Since she was a kitten in June 2023, she is now almost 1 year young.

Cupcake has proven that she gets along well with other cats and cat-friendly dogs, making her a great addition to a household with other pets.

She loves to be picked up and cuddled, although she is not necessarily a shoulder cat. She tends to follow you around.

Upon adoption, Cupcake comes with a negative rabies laboratory certificate, a sturdy cat box and all necessary documentation. We ask potential adopters to our adoption procedure to read. If there are any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.

Cupcake is waiting for a loving and caring home. Are you the right person to give it to her?

Amber

September 2023

Every now and then there is a cat whose rescue sticks in the memory. And while that can also be with a very cute photo, most of the time it is because of the terrible situation the cat found itself in.

We introduce you to Amber.

She came in covered in tar. It is not known how this happened. Let's hope she fell in herself. – It's hard not to immediately think the worst of people.

Amber revived thanks to the good care in Haven!

January 2024

We estimate Amber to be 3 to 4 years old. She has now received her vaccinations against common cat diseases and rabies. She has been sterilized.

Has received anti-worm and anti-flea treatments. Is chipped. Graduated from the University of Litter Box Use.

Amber gets along well with other cats and cat-friendly dogs.

She is also social with people. It is not a shoulder cat but is friendly and loves cuddles.

Amber is positive for FIV, but we are confident that this will not affect her love for you.

If cats interact peacefully with each other, the risk of infection is very low. And keeping Amber alone is also an option.

FIV cats should only live indoors and benefit from a good diet and a stable routine.

Like all cats, but especially with a cat like Amber, be sure to visit the vet every year for a check-up.

If you want to read more about 'living with an FIV cat; ' This is a Dutch-language Facebook group for people with an FIV cat and this is a similar English speaking group. – See also the 'info sheet FIV' at the bottom of this message.

If you would like to give Amber a try, take a look at our adoption procedure. And please don't hesitate to ask anything. Feel free to ask!

Snowflake

This is an adopted cat

Our calico cat Snowflake with the emerald green eyes is pure love!

Snowflake was found in the fall of 2022, when she was still a kitten. Koky, the founder of Haven, took her home.

After receiving all her vaccinations, Snowflake was allowed to go to the Haven, where she continues to wait for her own loving family.

Snowflake is now almost 2 years old and has not seen anything other than the shelter. She's the kind of cat who greets you loudly when you come home, who jumps into your lap for cuddles and rubs her cheek against yours.

In short: she is a real cuddly toy!

If you have enough time and space to give Snowflake the attention and cuddles she needs, then you are the right person for her.

She will give you so much love in return!

Like all SHE cats, Snowflake is sterilized, deflead, dewormed, chipped and fully vaccinated. She can fly to Europe, Canada and the United States and of course travels with a negative rabies certificate and all necessary documents.

For SHE, the safety of their rescued cats is their top priority. Therefore, our relocated cats are not allowed to roam freely in unsecured outdoor areas.

Also take a look at our adoption procedure. – For questions do not hesitate to contact us.
