Isn't this a scam?

You are right to wonder this. It is a fact that there are many scammers active. Scams involving the adoption or sale of animals certainly exist.

When I – the writer of this text (Walter Vermeir) – considered adopting my cats through Safe Haven Egypt, I wondered this too.

There is not much to be found online about Safe Haven Egypt. But if you look carefully you can find something. And on this page I collect those elements for you.

SHE lives on Facebook. That is the place to look for evidence that SHE is legitimate or not.

This is the private one Facebook group of Safe Haven Egypt. Sign up for that group.

That group has 6,100 members. View the messages. They are very numerous with the interaction of many people. Multiple messages per day. And goes back years.

This is one of the very first posts in that Facebook group, done by Kareema Ibraheem (Koky), the manager of Safe Haven Egypt. She was already busy adopting cats internationally in 2015.

The video below is from 2018.

Video from April 2018

Check out some profiles of random people in the group 'Safe Haven Egypt' (SHE)'.

Active and passive. You will see that these are real accounts. Not fake ones who all 'like' the same page and have four 'friends'.

There are reports there of new incoming cats, cats that need medical care. Messages about raffles. Reports of cat deaths, of cats that are going to leave for their adopters. Later messages from those adopters about cats that have arrived.

There are also messages from people from abroad, members of that FB group, those who have visited Safe Haven Egypt and share their experiences and photos.

There is also a special private Facebook group for people who adopted SHE cats; Where are they Meow?

That group currently has 814 members. Not everyone who adopted a SHE cat is in that group. As soon as you have been assigned a cat, after the positive 'home check', you can ask to be admitted to that group.

Anyone who searches Twitter or Facebook will mainly find messages from this project about the cats for adoption.

And speaking of this project; 'Friends of Safe Haven Egypt'.

This project has existed since January 27, 2023 this website since the beginning of February 2023. It is deliberately designed to be as identifiable as possible, via a personal domain name. There is also a page with adopter reviews of people adopting a cat at Safe Haven Egypt through this promotional project.

The value of 'reviews' also has its limitations. Here too, I can only recommend that you investigate it yourself. Go to the version of those reviews on Facebook here.

Check out the profiles of the people who left the review and make sure it's a real profile.

If something is a scam, they want to get money from you. Adopting a cat at Safe Haven Egypt costs the equivalent of £195. – All inclusive. Paperwork, documents, cat box, transport to the agreed pick-up point. Regardless of the destination. Regardless of whether it is a 'plain cat' or a 'fancy (long-haired) 'pedigree cat'.

That is all there is to pay. And with that Safe Haven Egypt loses a lot of money on every adopted cat. The rest comes from donations.

Under this section you can find a list of posts on the internet that mention Safe Haven Egypt. As you can see there are also some YouTube videos in there.

I hope that from what you can find here you can decide for yourself that Safe Have Egypt is legit.

Questions? Just ask.

This is a photo of Amber. A rescued cat by Safe Haven Egypt in September 2023, which had fallen in tar.

A visually strong photo.

A member of the SHE community noticed that there was an Instagram account of a person who was apparently rescuing cats and dogs.

This photo popped up there with requests for donations (with success). We also found a few other photos of SHE cats.

If an identical cat (or dog) has been rescued by multiple people at the same time, something is clearly wrong.

Keep in mind that you may also encounter the fraudulent one first.
