Ruskin

This is an confirmed cat

Ruskin has just been picked up off the street. – March 10, 2023

March 2023. After a typical long tiring day, Koky, the manager of Safe Haven Egypt, was on his way home from Haven. And she encounters a cat that almost ends up under her wheels.

Koky picked up the cat, which was caught without any problems. After reporting about this incident in the SHE Facebook group, the cat was named Ruskin and her first sponsor.

We estimate that Ruskin was born around the end of December 2022, beginning of 2023.

Ruskin is a very friendly girl. She likes to sit with people and follow them. She doesn't like being picked up.

She has been sterilized. Has received her vaccinations against common cat diseases and rabies. Has had deworming treatments and anti-flea treatment. Know how to use the litter box. And also has a microchip.

As you can see, she is now a beautiful adult tortoiseshell cat. And ready to find her own home.

Can you imagine Ruskin lying next to you on the couch? Softly humming as she presses against you? – Take a quick look at the top of this text! – If there is none 'This is a reserved cat' then this can be done effectively.

You have read how Ruskin was literally picked up off the street. That must never happen again. Above all, she must have a safe home. As an indoor cat or a cat with access to a fully enclosed outdoor area.

Know that Ruskin gets along well with other cats. So that's no problem for the longest time!

Can you give Ruskin a place in your home and in your heart?

Then check it out our adoption procedure. And please don't hesitate to contact us for questions. Or if you just know and want to be a candidate to adopt Ruskin.

Isaac

This is an adopted cat

March 4, 2022

This is Isaac. A classic SHE cat.

Early March 2022. Message from Koky, founder of Safe Haven Egypt, in the SHE Facebook group. – Her phone is never silent with requests to rescue cats in need.

This time 3 blind young cats. – Requests for donations to save them. That succeeds. – Isaac also has a sponsor, a name now, and a future.

Isaac, right in Haven. March 2022

Isaac is terrified when he arrives in Haven. But he will soon learn that Haven is a safe place.

He received the necessary medical care in addition to food, safety and love. His eyes where beyond saving.

Isaac received vaccinations against common cat diseases and rabies. Microchip and castration. He uses the litter box. His eyes have been removed and the eye sockets are closed.

Isaac has no known medical problems.

We estimate him to be 3 years old. Isaac is a friendly boy. He tends to meow when he wants food or attention. Isaac is a ground cat. He doesn't want to be picked up and carried around.

Isaac likes to be caressed, also on his stomach. He is good with other cats.

The fact that he is blind should not stop anyone from going for Isaac.

A blind SHE cat like Isaac could quite possibly be the sweetest boy you will ever meet.

Who wants and can give Isaac a home? A safe home. – It seems obvious that Isaac should not be able to wander around freely, but we have to mention it.

Check it out our adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us.

Kris Kringle

This is an adopted cat

This young man has already lost his home twice.

The handsome longhair was first admitted to Safe Haven Egypt (SHE) in November last year after being left at the gate of the Haven. Without a doubt, he was a domestic cat and was cared for before his family decided they didn't want him anymore.

This young man had a lucky accident by being admitted to the Haven. He was sponsored by supporters and given the name Kris Kringle because of the Christmas season. He is neutered, chipped and fully vaccinated.

At the end of December, SHE found a new home for Kris Kringle on site in Cairo. Unfortunately, this time his luck did not last long, because his owner developed an allergy and returned him to the Haven in January of this year.

So Kris Kringle is looking for a new home and a new family again! Hopefully he finds his forever home this time!

He is about 3 years old and gets along well with other cats. Kris Kringle is a cuddly cat. He is friendly, easy going.

He is also a calm cat. Which makes it also suitable for older people.

Who can give Kris Kringle his deserved "furrrever home"?

He can fly to Belgium or the Netherlands. Of course he travels with a negative rabies certificate and all necessary documents.

Under no circumstances should Kris Kringle be allowed to run loose, even in a quiet residential area. We want him to have a long, happy and safe life ahead of him.

He should be kept as an indoor cat, but a catio is fine or going outside in a completely cat-proof garden (with special fencing) would be welcome. Some of our adopters who don't have a cat-safe outdoor space have successfully trained their cats to walk with a cat harness, so that's also an option.

If you are interested in our cats, you can find more information about the procedure here.

Do not hesitate to contact us for questions or an adoption application.

Mariette

May 2023. – A video is making the rounds on Facebook of a pitiful pile of cats in Cairo infested with flies and with a badly inflamed mouth. – It's the kind of video that makes you want to reach through the screen to help that creature. (video somewhere below)

Sint Koky acted. – The pile of misery came to Haven and was given the name Mariette.

Some cats in this situation don't make it. – Mariette made it.

We suspect that Mariette was born around March 2023. - So she is now 1 year old. Mariette has become a beautiful calico cat. There's nothing wrong with her. But the experience on the street has not made her social.

Mariette is not wild. But 'shy'. Currently, she can only be touched to a very limited extent by a trusted human.

This may change. Shy cats can become very affectionate cats who want nothing more than to cuddle. – But that is certainly not certain. A cat like Mariette needs love and patience. But also respect for the boundaries that Mariette sets. Forcing it is certainly not a good idea.

Mariette has no problems with other cats and cat-friendly dogs.

Like all SHE cats, it has been sterilized. Has received a Rabies vaccination and basic vaccination against common cat diseases. An anti-worm treatment and anti-flea treatment. She is litter box trained.

The last thing we want is for a SHE cat to end up back in danger from the streets. Mariette must be an indoor cat. Or have a garden that she can't get out of.

Who can give our miracle cat a home? – A home with sweet attention. With acceptance that Mariette may never be a cuddle cat.

Please read our adoption procedure Please. And don't hesitate to contact us for questions or an offer to share your home with Mariette.

Mariette on the street

Ruth

This is an adopted cat

March 2022. – A woman finds a large plastic box next to her house. It's cold. It is wet. – What could be in it?

A cat and her four scared kittens. They end up in her neighbor's bathroom and the discovery goes around on Facebook. – The cat family can go to Haven.

The kittens have been placed. Mom is still in Haven. –Ruth.

Ruth is a friendly, affectionate cat. She is estimated to be 3 years old.

Ruth should be kept alone or with one other cat. Not with many, as she now has to live in Haven. She gets along with dogs.

Like all Haven cats, Ruth is chipped, sterilized and has had her basic vaccinations. And also an anti-worm cure and anti-flea treatment. Ruth is litter box trained.

All cats from Safe Haven Egypt enjoyed safety in Haven. Therefore
the cats must be indoor cats. They should not be allowed to be free
walk around. They can grow in a catio or a very well-enclosed garden
come outside.

All cats travel with a negative Rabies labarotium certificate and
a sturdy cat box and all documentation of the cat.

Who gives Ruth a lap to lie in?

Please view our adoption procedure Please. And don't hesitate to contact us contact if there are any questions.

Teddy

This is an adopted cat

Teddy is a 2-year-old female cat found in a remote location in Cairo. She was noticed and picked up by Koky, the manager of Safe Haven Egypt. She had been dumped on the street 10 days earlier, a local fruit seller said. He had fed the cat out of pity.

Teddy has a friendly character and appears to enjoy company, although she does not tend to jump on people. She would rather sit next to you.

Like all cats at Safe Haven Egypt, Teddy is fully vaccinated against common cat diseases and rabies. She is microchipped, dewormed, flea treated and sterilized. She is also litter box trained.

It is important to note that all Safe Haven Egypt cats must remain indoors for their safety. They are not allowed to roam freely, although they can go outside in a catio or a very well-enclosed garden.

Teddy is good with other cats and cat-friendly dogs.

When adopted, Teddy travels with a negative rabies laboratory certificate, a sturdy cat box and all her documentation.

Teddy has been through a lot in her young life, but her friendly and calm character remains unaffected. She is patiently waiting for a loving home where she can enjoy the company of her people. Are you considering giving Teddy a place in your home and heart?

Yes? Maybe? – Check out our adoption procedure . And don't hesitate to contact us with any questions.

Tiki

This is an adopted cat

Meet Tiki, a special resident of Safe Haven Egypt. This handsome young man, about a year old, is enjoying his life in Haven despite the challenges he has faced.

Before arriving at Haven, he dragged himself through the streets of Cairo.

That's because Tiki's has a poorly healed fracture in his left hind leg. But this brave boy won't let himself be stopped. Even though he can't walk on his hind legs, he doesn't let that stop him from moving around.

Tiki is a social cat, he gets along well with other cats and dogs. He even has the ability to climb stairs and can take himself to high places despite his physical challenge.

Tiki's determination is also reflected in his ability to use the litter box independently. He balances on his right hind leg and has not had any 'accidents' so far.

Although Tiki is a bit shy, he is far from wild. It may take some time to gain his trust, but with patience he will definitely come out of his shell. He is not a lap cat, but he does enjoy the simple things in life, like lying in the sun and enjoying his favorite meal, chicken.

Tiki is fully vaccinated against common cat diseases and rabies. He has also been microchipped, has undergone deworming and has been treated against fleas. Like all cats at Safe Haven Egypt, Tiki is litter box trained and neutered.

At Safe Haven Egypt we ensure that all our cats are safe. Therefore, they must live as indoor cats, although they are allowed in a catio or a very well-enclosed garden.

Tiki is ready for its own home. He travels with a negative Rabies laboratory certificate, a sturdy cat box and all his documentation.

Are you interested in adopting Tiki? Then read our adoption procedure and please contact us if you have any questions. – Tiki is waiting for you.

Pere Noel

A few days before Christmas a cat was found and taken to Haven
brought. He was a house cat who had been put out on the street by his previous owners.

The cat was named Pere Noel. According to estimates, he is
a 2 to 3 year old.

Despite his past, Pere Noel is a very friendly cat who likes to cuddle.

He is a Safe Haven Egypt cat, which means he has received all necessary vaccinations, including those against common cat diseases and rabies. Pere Noel is also chipped, dewormed and treated against fleas. He is house trained and neutered.

Pere Noel is positive for FIV, but we are confident that this will not affect her love for you.

If cats interact peacefully with each other, the risk of infection is very low. And keeping Amber alone is also an option.

FIV cats should only live indoors and benefit from a good diet and a stable routine.

If you want to read more about 'living with an FIV cat; ' This is a Dutch-language Facebook group for people with an FIV cat and this is a similar English speaking group. – Also read the 'info sheet FIV' at the bottom of this message.

At Safe Haven Egypt, the safety of our cats is our top priority. Therefore, we ask that Pere Noel remains indoors unless he has access to a catio or a very well-enclosed garden.

Upon adoption, Pere Noel will travel with a negative rabies laboratory certificate, a sturdy cat box and all associated documentation.

Pere Noel is a wonderful cat who deserves a loving home. Please consider adopting him and giving him the care and attention he needs.

We are asking potential adopters to go through our adoption procedure. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Jubilee

This is an adopted cat

Jubilee is the penultimate kitten

In January 2023, news reached the street of a litter of four kittens in a pizza box. It was estimated that they were one month young.

A friend of Haven's took them in to care for them. Such small kittens need a lot of personal attention. As soon as there was room at Haven, they were admitted to Haven.

One of those four kittens is this boy, Jubilee.

So he is now one year old.

Jubilee is quite a big boy and is a cuddler. He is very friendly.

He likes to lie on his back and be petted on his belly. We suspect he will become more long-haired as he gets older.

Jubilee would do well in a family with cats, dogs and children. He is not in the habit of jumping on people.

As always with SHE cats, Jubilee is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated against Rabies and general cat diseases. Has had a deworming treatment and anti-flea treatment. – Jubilee is also litter box trained.

Jubilee as an ex-street cat should not be allowed back on the street with its many dangers. Therefore, an adopter must promise that Jubilee must be an indoor cat. Or possibly can only go outside in circumstances where he cannot walk around freely in the area.

Who can give Jubilee a home? – Check out our adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us.

Sunset

This is an withdrawn cat

Update 2024-05-30: Sunset has a serious medical problem that was not known when Sunset's promotional messages were posted on Facebook. The text below has been adjusted with that information

In July 2023, a video made the rounds. A blind cat eating bread. – Not an obvious meal for a cat. Hunger lowers pickiness.

When going out to pick up that cat to take it to Haven, there turned out to be two. The bread eater was Danny, Sunset is a suspected sister. They are both safe in Haven now. And they don't eat bread anymore.

As usual, her first sponsor gave her a name and it is Sunset.

Sunset is blind. Her eyes are not functional. These non-functional eyes are currently still present.

The tough life on the street has not cracked her. Sunset is a sweet, friendly and playful cat. Good with dogs and other cats.

We estimate that Sunset is 1.5 years old.

It was recently determined that Sunset has a medical problem with her liver. The liver enzymes are much too high. As a result, the operation to remove her eyes has been postponed.

There is a suspicion that this will be a chronic problem. Sunset currently needs special food and medicine. With the right treatment this can be controlled.

Sunset is currently adoptable. We recommend that anyone who adopts Sunset have her thoroughly examined by their local veterinarian.

Although the cats in Haven receive the best possible care, the options available to veterinarians in Egypt are probably more limited than those in the adopter's country.

If the current diagnosis remains confirmed, special veterinary diet food will have to be purchased for Sunset. No guarantee can be given about Sunset's life expectancy.

But a chronic condition does not necessarily rule out Sunset's ability to live a long life.

In any case, the potential for longevity is higher for Sunset if she were adopted. The necessary special veterinary diet food is extremely difficult to obtain in Egypt. This kind of food is expensive anyway. But because it has to come via 'grey imports', it is much, much more expensive to buy in Egypt. And often simply not for sale.

Obtaining the necessary medication is also difficult in Egypt. And we cannot ignore the financial aspect.

Sunset's best chance would be to find an adopter who is willing to adopt her despite her medical challenges.

Like all SHE cats, she knows where to find her litter box. Has received her vaccinations against rabies and common cat diseases. She has received an anti-worm treatment and an anti-flea treatment. Has been made sterile and has a microchip.

Anyone who would adopt Sunset to keep her until the sunset of her life will receive her including a transport box and her vaccination record.

Please take a look at our adoption procedure so you know how this goes. – And if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us.
