Coat is no longer than four centimeters. Tangles and mats do not occur. Often it is only necessary to comb during the shedding period - when the cat loses a lot of fur.
Our cuddly tortoiseshell cat Sassafras is looking for a home again!
Sassafras was admitted to Haven with her mother and four siblings when she was just one day old. Luckily all the babies survived!
The mother cat was named Tiggy by our sponsors and has already been adopted, as have two of her kittens.
In addition to Sassafras, her handsome brother Alfie is still looking for his forever home. We would of course like to place them together, but that is not a must.
Sassafras is now 2 years old and enjoys every cuddle she can get at the Haven. Although she does well there and socializes with the other fluff balls, she is desperate for the attention and love, which only her own family can give her.
Would you grant Sassafras' wish?
Like all SHE cats, Sassafras is sterilized, deflead, dewormed, chipped and vaccinated.
She can fly to Europe, Canada and the US and of course travels with a negative rabies certificate and all necessary documents.
SHE attaches great importance to the safety of its rescued cats. Therefore, they will not be allowed to roam freely in their new home. Of course they would be happy with a well-secured balcony or a cat-proof garden.
Deedee was born around December 2020 and came to us in March 2021 after a video of her acting strangely. This seemed to indicate a neurological problem.
We managed to rescue her from the street and bring her to Haven. She was very scared at first,
Thanks to B12 vitamin injections, her condition improved significantly.
Deedee has been at the Haven for three years and has no known health problems. She does have a tendency to tilt her head a little to the left, but this does not hinder her in her daily life.
When Deedee arrived at our home, she was very shy, but now she allows herself to be touched by Koky, the manager of the Port, and she likes to get close. We expect that after adoption it will not take much effort to get Deedee used to her new owner and to gain trust.
NB; Deedee is not a ready-made cuddle cat.
She gets along well with other cats and dogs and is litter box trained.
Like all Safe Haven Egypt cats, Deedee has received her basic vaccinations against common cat diseases and rabies, has been microchipped and has undergone deworming and anti-flea treatment. She has been sterilized and must be kept as an indoor cat, although she can go outside in a catio or a very well-enclosed garden.
When adopted, Deedee comes with a negative rabies laboratory certificate, a sturdy cat box and all necessary documentation.
The angel we now present to you arrived in Haven in what is a usual manner for us.
A video circulated of a cat on the streets of Cairo limping, with a bad hind leg.
Koky – founder of Haven – asked a friend to look for this cat. Three days later she was found and arrived in Haven. That was at the end of October 2022.
As you can see in the video, Neeko's paw has recovered nicely. – Watch her play and run!
We estimate Neeko was born around July or August 2022. So now (September 2024) she is a 2 year old.
She is a very beautiful young cat, but 'shy'. Nooko does not allow being touched at this time. That doesn't mean she's a wild cat. Merely touching is a step too far at the moment.
There's a good chance that eventually a non-touch cat can become a touch cat. Maybe just a little bit, like stroking the head. Possibly only while eating.
But it is certainly also possible that she will become a real cuddly cat. However, one cannot assume that. The adopter must be able to accept Neeko as a shy cat.
Trust must be earned. Don't impose yourself. Don't try to force them to stroke them head-on. – Neeko is not aggressive, at least not with us where we respect her boundaries.
At first she will keep her distance. Being suspicious. – When she knows that you can be trusted, she will be more relaxed.
When that trust is there, a shy cat can even lie next to you in bed. Not touching doesn't mean not being social.
Neeko is already social with other cats. She has received her vaccinations against common cat diseases. Deworming treatment and anti-flea treatment. She has a microchip that is waiting to be registered by her adopter.
Neeko is not shy about using the litter box. When she travels it will be with her vaccination record and a negative rabies test.
Do you still see potential in Neeko? - Awesome! – Then contact us! And make us and Neeko happy.
Are you open to a shy cat but are you also looking for a cuddly cat? - What a luck! – Safe Haven Egypt has more than one cat available. A double adoption is also an option!
As they often do, a video of a young cat in dire need in Cairo circulated among people active in sheltering and rescuing cats. This was at the end of 2021.
It was a cat that had clearly had something terrible happen to it. Broken jaw and his eyes were a bloody mess. – He wouldn't make it without help.
A friend of Haven took him to the vet for necessary care and cared for him for about a month. The SHE community sponsored him and named him Christian. And so, in early 2022, Christian arrived in Haven.
Here we are two years later. Christian has become a grown-up handsome boy.
Christian is blind. The eyes are removed and closed. He must be about 2.5 years old now.
He is a gentle, calm and friendly cat. He has no tendency to bite or scratch.
Christian gets along well with other cats. He's a good eater.
He is not yet cuddly, he is a bit scared of being touched. The busy environment of Haven is not good for him. He sometimes walks a bit uncertainly and nervously through the spaces.
In a quiet house he will certainly blossom.
So he is one of the many blind SHE cats. Know that blind cats are wonderful. They are cats through and through. And they can be expected to act as cats do. Such as (possibly) found on top of a seemingly inaccessible place.
For those who delve into the world of blind cats, see . FB group Blind cats united.
All cats at Safe Haven Egypt receive vaccinations against common cat diseases. An anti-worm and anti-flea treatment. Have a microchip, are castrated like Christian. They are litter box trained, – And will travel with a negative Rabies certificate and their vaccination record.
Also something that applies to all SHE cats is that they must be indoor cats. - We don't want to have to find out after adoption that adopter's promise not to let the cat roam free twas a lie . - This has even happened with a blind cat.
We would like to get our animals adopted. But that must also be done properly and safely.
Can you give our Christian a home? Want to sit together on the couch and go to sleep? – Then take a look at our adoption procedure.
And don't hesitate to contact us for questions or an adoption proposal.
Sharing this message where you can is also something that we greatly appreciate.
Safe Haven Egypt presents: Noodle. – A cat with a classic story.
A year ago, she was a nameless, almost invisible, alley cat among countless other cats on the streets of Cairo. And street cats live a street cat life.
If they are not bitten by dogs, beaten or poisoned by people, they are killed.
Noodle had been hit by a car and lay dying with a broken jaw and a badly infected eye. Despite everything, Noodle was incredibly lucky that a good soul saw her and cared about her fate. Noodle was brought to Haven.
Thanks to the support of the SHE community, Noodle was able to have surgery on her jaw and eye.
Unfortunately, the heavily infected eye could not be saved and had to be removed to prevent further infections. And with her remaining eye she can see almost nothing, although it looks fine. Antibiotics cannot solve everything. – So in practice Noodle is as good as blind.
Noodle has now been able to recover from her accident in the safety of Haven for a year. With medical care, without hunger. Without danger. With only friendly people.
She is now estimated to be 2 to 3 years old. Noodle is not (yet) a cuddly cat that constantly demands attention and hangs around your legs. But she certainly appreciates it when people come and give her some love.
Noodle can best be described as a calm cat. And she doesn't really like a lot of fuss. With her adoptive family she would be best kept with no more than two or three other cats. She will appreciate a quiet home.
Practical: Noodle is ready to go. She is chipped and sterilized. Has had her vaccinations against common cat diseases. Has been dewormed. She will travel with her negative Rabies certificate. And of course all relevant documents.
Her new home must be a safe home. That is an absolute requirement. Noodle cannot and should never again find herself in a situation where she could end up on the street. There are no safe neighborhoods with 'quiet streets'. A car on a quiet road or a busy road is equally dangerous.
Therefore, Noodle must be an indoor cat. Or is she only allowed to go outside in a very, really very, well-closed garden from which she cannot escape. Which is possible but not easy. Or a cat run building can also be an option. – Whatever you do Noodle's must be safe.
Balder is another cat for which there is no documentation of how it ended up in Haven. But in the end they are all pretty similar stories.
Let's say Balder was found as an orphaned kitten and brought into Haven.
At the beginning of March 2022, Balder will appear in the SHE Facebook group. The estimate at the time was that he was 3 months old. That puts his estimated date of birth in December 2021. And so he is currently 1 year old with his 2nd birthday approaching.
He already received the description then 'very affectionate and friendly'.
Here we are a year and a half later. Little boys grow up. And this boy is now really ready to leave Haven.
'He virtually came flying into my arms, wanted to be cuddled for ages. He is definitely overdue for his forever home.'
.
Claudia Bart, visitor to Safe Haven Egypt
Balder was brought to the attention of a foreign visitor to Haven. He demanded attention by pushing for attention. And hugs. Long lasting hugs.
Pictures say more than words. See bottom of this message. This is clearly a boy who can give his or her human a lot of love.
Balder has received his vaccinations against common cat diseases and rabies. Like all SHE cats, he receives a deworming treatment and flea control.
When he leaves he will leave with all his documentation of his medical status. He is neutered and chipped.
And yes, cats also use the litter box in Egypt, like Balder.
There are many cats with disabilities in Safe Haven Egypt. Not so with Balder. He comes with 4 legs, 2 working eyes and 1 tail.
Balder has spent almost his entire life in Haven. In complete safety. It is therefore imperative that Balder will find the same security with his adopter. He must be an indoor cat or go outside in a garden that is adapted so that a cat cannot get out. Or possibly via one cat run.
In Haven, Baller sits with many other cats. There are also a few cat-friendly dogs walking around there. And even some rabbits, chickens and a duck. Haven also receives visits from children sometimes.
Balder would do well in families with other animals and well-behaved children.
Do you think maybe you could give Balder a home? - Awesome!
If this sounds like something to you or if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us. We are happy to help you.
Does a cat not fit into your family? – Well, this is not something to do lightly. But perhaps there are people in your area who can offer a cat a home? – Sharing is caring!
If you follow SHE, you know that Koky's phone is buzzing almost constantly. Messages, calls, texts – all about cats needing help. Unfortunately, due to limited space and resources, we can only help so few cats. Simsim is lucky, in more ways than one.
It was August 2021 when Koky was alerted to a report about a kitten that had fallen from a building – four floors – and was now just lying on the street, not moving.
He was certainly still alive and some people had given some food and water, but other than that he was just left to die.
Unsure if anything could be done other than provide some comfort and human love, Koky arranged for the kitten, named Simsim, to be brought to the Haven. He was weak and couldn't walk, but nothing was broken.
With the right nutrition, medicine and vitamins, Simsim was soon back on his feet. It wasn't long before he was taken to the kitten apartment to socialize with the other pups.
Simsim has been a resident of the Haven for a while and is more than ready for his forever home. He used to greet me in the main apartment every morning and then wanted me to sit down and have a bit of time just for him. He loves cuddles and would be the perfect cat to have
.
Claudia Bart, visitor to Haven in October 2023
Simsim is estimated to be approximately three years old at the time of writing. He is an intelligent, gentle and friendly cat. He likes to accept affection and appreciates attention, but he is not a cat that always follows you around. – We make no guarantees once he is in a forever home; personalities sometimes change once cats have their own people.
Simsim should fit well in most households, including those with older, respectful children. He loves other cats as well as people, but could be an only cat if given enough attention and playtime daily.
Simsim is house trained, neutered, chipped and has had his vaccinations, including rabies. He travels with his original rabies blood test certificate and his vaccination record.
Simsim should not be allowed to run loose under any circumstances, not even in a quiet residential area. Like many of our cats, he does not understand the danger of vehicles. We want him to have a long, happy and safe life ahead of him. Simsim should be kept as an indoor cat, but one catio is fine or going outside in a completely cat-proof garden (with special fencing) would be welcome. Some of our adopters who don't have a cat-safe outdoor space have successfully trained their cats to walk with a cat harness, so that's also an option.
That said, we believe that with the right amount of attention, stimulation and involvement, cats can live fulfilling and happy lives as indoor cats. Our team can provide you with advice and guidance in this area.
If you're looking for a friendly, calm and gentle cat as a companion, why not consider our handsome Simsim? Maybe he's just what you're looking for.
If not, would you consider sharing this profile in other groups? We've found that most of our new adopters learn about us from their friends, colleagues, or someone who shared one of our posts. (share options at the bottom of this post)
Please help us spread the news!
This boy has been in the Haven for two years now, without a single offer for adoption. All “preparations” for his journey have been completed; he can pack his bags and fly away to a new life in Britain, the EU, the US or Canada.
If you are interested in offering Simsim a forever home or would like to learn more, be sure to read our adoption procedure.
Do not hesitate to contact us for questions or interest. We are happy to help you.
It was supposed to be a quiet, relaxing evening in late October 2022. Koky's husband suggested they go out for dinner, that she take a break after another busy and stressful week of overseeing the Haven, rescuing cats, finding adopters for cats, etc., etc.
Rocky has been found! – photo end of October 2022
Returning to their car after dinner, Koky heard a little meow and had no choice but to follow it. She came across a very young kitten who was desperately trying to find his mother, without success. After trying to find the mother cat, Koky took this little boy home.
The precious little kitten named Rocky has grown into a sweet and friendly 2 year old cat. As one of Koky's foster babies, he has regular contact with cats and kittens and gets along well with them. He also loves people and follows Koky from room to room. As you would expect for a boy his age, Rocky is active and loves to play. We expect him to fit in well in most homes.
Profile update December 2024:
Rocky probably got a blood clot a few months ago. After he recovered from that his behavior was different. He started meowing really loudly. And when he walks around he holds his head a little to the right. He still does this.
Rocky is still a very affectionate boy. The video below shows what he is like now.
Rocky is house trained, neutered, microchipped and has had his vaccinations, including rabies.
He can travel to the US, Canada, Great Britain and Europe. If he does, he will fly with his original blood test certificate from the rabies laboratory and his vaccination record. Rocky must be an indoor cat, or if he is allowed outside, in a completely cat-proof garden (with the special fence) or a cat run. He has lived most of his life in complete safety and we want to ensure that this level of safety is maintained. He will not understand that vehicles pose an immediate danger.
We believe that cats can live happy and fulfilled lives as indoor kittens as long as they get the right amount of play, stimulation, one-on-one time, etc. We can give you advice and resources to make your home more “cat-friendly” if you do not immediately have access to a litter box or a completely cat-safe outdoor area.
If you'd like more information about our adoption process – or if you're ready to give this boy a home, please feel free to send a message. We will do our best to contact you within 24 hours.
We also know from experience that the more stories and messages shared, the greater the chance that the cat will find a forever home.
May we ask for your help in informing people about Rocky and our organization? There are rescue organizations that do not want to adopt from people who live in an apartment/condo and/or insist on free-roaming; we are quite the opposite.
Please help us find a home for this boy and the others we care for!
She must have been born around August 2022. So she is now 2 years old. (October 2024) Her name means “beauty”, “fragrant flower” or “grace”.
Zeynab as found on the street, among garbage
She was rescued on the street as a very young kitten, without a mother cat. Because of her age, she had to be bottle-fed. There is always a risk that these little ones will not survive, but Zaynab has grown into a kind and gentle girl.
Zaynab has a sweet character – not an in-your-face cat, but very grateful for human attention when it is offered. (See the video below, courtesy of our equally lovely Admin, Deborah Falcus).
Zaynab did not join the crowd of other cats that Deborah circled for attention on a recent visit. But when Deborah approached Zeynab she was happy with love. The only thing a little different about her is that she doesn't like dry food/kibble — so far she only eats wet food.
Maybe her new adopter can try some different flavors or options with her?
Because she was just a baby when she was rescued, the only home Zaynab has ever known is the Haven. She never had her own house, her own people. Given her temperament, we expect she would fit in well with most households, including those with other cats, with the cat-friendly dog and with respectful children.
October 2024
Zaynab must be able to maintain the same level of safety in her forever home as she had in the Haven. This means that she either needs to be adopted by someone with a completely cat-proof yard (with the special fencing) or catio Either as an indoor cat/house cat.
We believe that with a few adjustments, such as daily playtime, indoor cats can live happy and content lives. Additionally, many of our adopters have had success training our cuties to go outside with a harness and leash, something that could be explored.
Zaynab is litter box trained. And like all our cats, she is sterilized, microchipped and vaccinated against standard cat diseases and rabies. If she travels, she will do so with her certificate from the laboratory that certifies her rabies blood test. She also has a negative FIV/FeLV test.
All adoption offers are subject to a successful home check (done via video call) and an adoption contribution. See page What is the adoption procedure at SHE?
If you think this young lady would be a good fit for your home and you are interested, then by all means, please contact us Contact.
We will do our best to contact you within 24 hours. If you have any questions about SHE, how adoption works with us, or how we work, please don't hesitate to contact us.
If you're not looking for a feline for your family, can you help us by spreading Zaynab's profile on social media?
She is ready to pack her bags and go to her forever home!
New video from 09/10/2023
Explanation; Zeynab was in a cage for two days to investigate whether she was eating enough. Normally she walks around freely in the group.
