Quinn

October 2022

In late November 2022, Kareema, the owner of Haven, went to lunch with a friend. She took the wrong road so she had to turn around by making a U-turn. There on that busy road she saw little kitten Quinn, very scared and meowing loudly.

Kareema stopped and pulled him off the busy road and then took him to the safety of the harbor.

Quinn is now two years old. He is estimated to be born in October 2022.

He is not a lap cat. He does not come and ask to be cuddled. He walks, runs and plays to be with you but does not let himself be touched. With time and a home that he can call his own 4-ever home there is room for improvement.

If you play with him a lot he will learn to trust people and hopefully become more affectionate. Since he is a playful cat this process can be a lot of fun for everyone.

December 2024

Quinn has received his vaccination for common cat diseases and rabies. He has received his worm and flea treatment. He is microchipped and neutered. And knows how to use the litter box.

He gets along well with other cats and cat friendly dogs. There are no known medical issues. He sometimes looks a bit cross-eyed. Quinn is a healthy young cat. Not yet tested for FIV/FeLV. Option to have tested is available.

As a SHE cat who has found safety in Haven we insist that it stays that way. And so Quinn must be an indoor cat or only allowed outside in a very well enclosed garden. No free roaming is allowed.

We ask anyone who can give Quinn a home to read the adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us for questions.

Baklava

Baklava's net, July 2022

We present you a cat with beautiful coat patterns; Baklava.

She was found in a cardboard box on the street as a very small kitten together with her two littermates. That was in July 2022. They were taken in at Haven. Although at first it looked good for the three kittens and all the good care, only Baklava survived.

We put her estimated date of birth in June 2022. Which makes her 2.5 years old now.

From the street, or more accurately, from the box to Haven, that is, from mortal danger to safety. That is good, but Baklava cannot stay in Haven all her life.

December 2024

Baklava is a beautiful healthy cat who gets along well with the many other cats in Haven. And also with friendly dogs.

She is a very calm cat. She likes to be petted when she knows you. She is not (yet) a cat that will lie on your lap. She is very relaxed in her behavior, a cat that does not worry about anything.

She is not aggressive or naughty.

Like all SHE cats, she has received her basic vaccinations against common cat diseases (FVR, FCV, FPV) and rabies. Anti-worming and flea treatment. Baklava has a microchip and is sterilized. And is also litter box trained.

We want to get Baklava out of Haven and into an adopter's home. But under conditions. - Baklava is safe in Haven and must be safe in her new home.

Baklava must be an indoor cat or only allowed outside in a secure enclosed outdoor environment.

Do you see this friendly beautiful cat getting a place in your home? Then take a look the adoption procedure. Don't hesitate to contact us for questions.

flossy

Flossie on the street, November 2021

Not all the tomcats and queens in Haven are ex-street cats. But almost all are. Like Flossie.

With the oh so familiar story; blind cat in need on the street noticed by a good soul who took pity on this poor creature. And asked for help on Facebook. And Koky, the owner of Haven, who made sure the cat could find its way to Haven. – This was in November 2021.

Meanwhile, Flossie has found safety in Haven. But Haven is a transit home, not a destination. Flossie is looking for a home.

Flossie is a handsome boy. He is also skittish. Although he does get along well with other cats ... there are really a lot of cats in Haven. We suspect that a quieter environment with less stimuli would be good for Flossie.

Flossie's adopter takes in a blind tomcat who is looking for safety and stability. Flossie must learn that he can trust his human. That he should not be afraid.

December 2024

Flossie is not a 'shy cat'. Not a 'no touch cat'. Touching is not really the problem. That is currently possible to a limited extent, see the video at the bottom of this message. Flossie is a scared cat.

What Flossie needs more than anything is patience and attention from his human. But at the same time not impose themself. When Flossie is ready for affection, he will approach you himself. This is not a cat to pick up and put on your lap and start petting him.

A busy family with small children and possibly busy dogs does not seem like a good idea to us with Flossie.

Mind you, this is not to say that Flossie cannot blossom and become a very social cat who walks around his domain with confidence.

We estimate Flossie was born around August 2021. Which makes him about 3.5 years old now.

As you can see, the remains of his eyes have been surgically removed and closed. He has received his basic vaccinations against common cat diseases and rabies. A deworming treatment and anti-flea treatment.

Flossie is also chipped and neutered. Blind cats can adapt well. Finding the litter box is no problem.

A fairly obvious condition of a good adoption is that Flossie must be safe. He comes from the streets and almost died there. Flossie must be an indoor cat or only come outside in a very safe controlled environment. - As he is used to in Haven with his courtyard and completely closed terraces.

Flossie is not a ready-made lap cat. He is also not a non-touch cat. He is a soul who has had a hard time which has not done his self-confidence any good but with the right person he can become a best friend.

Are you Flossie's person? – Then check out our adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us.

Sefu

Sefu on arrival at Port

Introducing Sefu, one of the many blind cats of Haven. There is not much information available about Sefu but what is really important.

Sefu is currently estimated to be 7 months old. That would put him around June 2024.

Koky, the owner of Haven, describes him as 'a very sweet one'. – A very sweet one.

He is very affectionate, very friendly. And he can be picked up.

Sefu is functionally blind. He still has his eyes but he can probably only see shadows.

December 2024

Like all SHE cats, Sefu has received his basic vaccination against common cat diseases and rabies. Anti-worm treatment and flea control.

He is chipped and neutered. And litter box trained.

Like all SHE cats, Sefu can only be adopted if he will end up in a safe environment. He must be an indoor cat. Or be able to go outside in controlled safe circumstances.

The aspect of his blindness is not something a prospective adopter should be concerned about. Blind cats are very self-reliant.

Who can offer this sweet boy a home? If you recognize yourself in this, please send the text over read the adoption procedure. And if you have any questions please don't hesitate to to ask those questions.

Although Sefu is unique a 'cat for adoption' is not. – Sharing this profile would be greatly appreciated. Buttons for that are at the bottom of this post.

Karlson

Karlson on the street. End of November 2023

The well-known story with Karlson; blind very young cat in dire need on the street. Someone noticed that and took it upon themselves to ask for help.

Word of this reached Koky, the owner of Haven, and Koky went to pick up the cat. This was at the end of November 2023 when Karlson won his life, safety and a name.

Karlson has been in Haven for over a year now, among all the other rescued ex-street cats, waiting for a home of his own.

He is a friendly boy. A little shy at first when he doesn't know you. It doesn't take long to gain his trust. – He loves cuddles.

He has one eye left. We suspect that he can still see a tiny bit with it. Probably not much more than light and dark, maybe shadows.

Karlson is a ground cat, which is not unusual for a blind cat to be afraid when they lose contact with the ground.

December 2024

There is nothing wrong with that. A cat is not a toy and the cat has a say in when it is a good time for personal attention. He will come by himself.

We estimate Karlson was born around June 2023. That makes him a year and a half now. He is now ready to be adopted.

As welcome as he is in Haven Karlson must leave to make way for a few of the thousands of 'Karlson's' still on the streets in need.

Like all SHE cats, he has received his basic vaccinations against common cat diseases and rabies. He is chipped and castrated. He received anti-worm treatment and flea control. And blind boys also find the litter box.

By the way, one should not worry about being 'blind'. Only people worry about that. Blind cats manage exceptionally well.

At Safe Haven Egypt we place great emphasis on the safety of our cats. They found it at Haven and it absolutely must remain that way. One would think that 'being blind' would be enough of an argument that Karlson should be an indoor cat or can only go outside in a safe enclosed space. - But experience shows that this cannot be repeated enough. Also when it comes to blind cats.

So; walking around freely in 'the safe, quiet residential area with very little traffic' is not allowed. No discussion possible.

Who's ready to give a sweet blind ground cat a floor of his own? Is that you? – Then read carefully the adoption procedure. And please don't hesitate to contact us.

Affie

Affie on the street, August 2021

We introduce you to long time resident Affie. The story of Affie is a well-known one.

In August 2021, news surfaced of a young cat in dire need next to a garbage pile on the street. Koky, the owner of Haven, went to rescue her.

And although Haven is a good place to stay, Affie is still there. And that is not really the intention. – High time to find her a home.

We estimate that Affie was born around June 2021. That makes her now – end of 2024 – a 3.5 year old.

Beautiful, friendly Affie

Helen Peach

December 2024

Occasionally, people who previously adopted a cat from Haven visit the shelter in Egypt. Three different visitors had nice words to say about Affie.

Affie has been described as a very friendly cat who loves to be cuddled and has a soft coat.

She has a beautiful personality, loving and playful, gorgeous soft fur, no health issues at all. She perfect!

Such a shame she's been overlooked, I don't know why

Deborah Falcus

December 2024

Like all cats, Affie has received her basic vaccination against common cat diseases and rabies. Anti-worm and flea treatment. She is chipped and sterilized. And is litter box trained.

Really can't get why sweet little Affie doesn't have a home to call her own yet. She has been at the haven since September 2021.

As soon as she notices someone has time to cuddle she follows you everywhere. She is very good with other kitties. Demands her time and cuddles. Has been in the haven since Sept 2021 but I don't quite understand why.

Maud Faats

A cat like Affie came into Haven almost dead. She has found safety in Haven. – It should stay that way. All SHE cats should be house tigers. Or if they go outside, it should be in safe circumstances.

Being able to walk around freely in the neighborhood is not acceptable.

Affie gets along well with other cats and cat-friendly dogs. She has no known medical problems. A FIV/FeLV can be done on request.

Anyone looking for a sweet cat will not find better than Affie. We are looking for someone worthy of the love that Affie can give.

Are you that candidate? – See our adoption procedure. And please don't hesitate contact us if you have any questions.

Pumpkin

Pumpking pass in Haven

Pumpkin's temporary home has been Haven since August 2024.

When she arrived at Haven she had cloudy eyes. Pumkin was given eye drops and they helped. The cloudiness in her eyes is mostly gone. It is suspected that she has about 80% vision.

Her right ear is damaged. It is not clear how this happened. – Just to be clear; Pumpkin is not deaf.

December 2024

We estimate that she was born in June 2024, so she is still very young.

Like all SHE cats, she has received her vaccinations. This against common cat diseases and rabies. She is also chipped and sterilized. Has received her deworming and anti-flea treatment.

And is also litter box trained.

She is very friendly. Loves cuddles. And is – no surprise since she is so young – very playful.

A visitor to Haven had the following to say about Pumpking;

Pumpkin is really one of my favorites!

Very calm and waiting but once you have touched her or looked at her once she only wants attention. She will not push anyone else aside just to be petted, she waits her turn.

In one eye you can still see a whitish haze/discoloration, but this does not bother her at all.

Maud, visitor to Haven in December 2024

Pumpkin gets along well with other cats and also cat-friendly dogs.

We care about the safety of our SHE cats. Pumpkin literally has a 'win for life' won by getting off the streets and into Haven. – Pumpkin is safe in Haven.

It should be the same in her adoptive family.

Some people believe that it is cruel to forbid a cat to roam freely. – There is no discussion about this here.

A SHE adoption cat must be an indoor cat. Or if it goes outside, it must be in a very well-sealed outdoor area or cat run, that is also fine.

And anyone who wants to walk the adopted cat on a leash is welcome to do so.

Anyone who does not want to keep a cat under these conditions should not go to Safe Haven Egypt.

Another practical thing: due to regulations with the rabies vaccination, the earliest Pumkin can travel is February 2025.

Which in practice will not really cause a delay as you will understand if you our adoption procedure reads.

Who can offer this young friendly girl a safe home? And give her the personal attention that she can get far too little in Haven?

For nominations or questions don't hesitate to contact us.

Panda

Panda when Koky picked her up

Our adorable rescue kitty Panda from Safe Haven Egypt (SHE) in Cairo is looking for her new home!

Could this playful girl with the black ear steal your heart?

Panda's rescue story began in May 2024 when SHE founder Koky came across her at a gas station in Cairo. Koky regularly feeds a colony of stray cats there, and on this day, the station staff were waiting for her arrival.

They had found a tiny kitten and luckily Koky showed up!

The employees explained that a car had stopped for gas and this little kitten had fallen out, probably after hiding somewhere in the car's engine.

Because Panda was still so small, Koky took her home, where she already took in a number of other kittens. As soon as Panda got stronger and had her basic vaccinations, she moved to the young cat apartment from the Haven to make sure she got the proper socialization.

Panda is now 7 months old (as of October 2024) and is fully vaccinated, dewormed, flea treated, microchipped and sterilised.

Not only is she super friendly with people but also full of fun and energy!

Panda loves to play and would love to have a playmate. If you don't have a playmate at home, Panda can bring a friend!

Because Panda was raised in the safety of the shelter, she will be adopted as an indoor cat. However, she would like access to a secure balcony or enclosed outdoor area. But as long as your home has enough space to play, this is not a strict requirement.

Due to rabies vaccination regulations, Panda will be able to fly to the EU and the UK from the end of December 2024. Adoption in Switzerland is also possible under certain conditions. Panda is already allowed to travel to Canada and the US.

If Panda has captured your heart, read the information about our adoption procedure.

Do not hesitate to contact us for questions (or an adoption proposal).

Angel

Angel arriving at Haven

Upon arrival at Haven, Angel was literally a broken cat. Probably hit by a car.

Her jaw was broken and she had severe injuries to her eyes. Her jaw healed well and is fine now. Her eyes were not.

Angel is blind.

We estimate Angel to be 4 years old. Born in the first half of 2021. She was an adult when she came to Haven. And also when she went blind. Angel has a hard time with that. She is 'shy'. A 'no-touch cat'.

That is not absolute. – Koky, the manager of Haven, can sometimes, if she can take the time, gently pet her a little.

This makes Koky believe that with an adopter who is patient and can gain Angel's trust, there is potential to make her lose her shyness.

Can Angel become a cuddle cat? Possibly. – But that is not something to promise. With love and patience, much is possible.

An adopter must be able to accept Angel as being 'shy'. What will certainly help is never to forget that a blind cat is blind.

Example of a blind cat that is not sleeping

With a sighted cat you can see directly from the eyes whether it has seen you. Whether it is awake. – With a blind cat it is much more subtle to see whether it is awake or not.

Waking up a sleeping cat and startling it by touching it is not a good way to gain trust. For any cat.

Angel gets along well with other cats and dogs. It is with people that she is on her guard.

Angel doesn't like dry food. She eats wet. She is a fan of chicken and tuna.

Like all Haven cats, Angel has received her basic vaccinations and her rabies vaccine. Deworming and flea treatment. She is microchipped and sterilized. And is litter box trained.

Also standard with all SHE cats;

They came from the evil dangerous world to Haven. When they are adopted it is not to be put back into danger. SHE cats must either be indoor cats or only allowed outside in a secure environment.

We do not want the adopted cat to roam around in the adopter's neighborhood. Not even if 'It's very quiet here, hardly any cars pass by'.

So. – Who wants to give Angel a home? Will you consider this? Check out our adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Seriously. Everyone involved is doing this for the cats' well-being. You're not going to interrupt.

Doesn’t a cat like Angel fit into your life right now? Maybe someone else you know does? – Sharing this post is caring!

Sir Drake

He is a blind boy.

His name is Sir Drake. He is about 4 years old.
He came to us in August 2023.

He was found by a friend after being hit by a car and she had to take him to the vet to save his life.

He did not lose his life, but unfortunately he did lose his sight.
The eyes are still there but the accident has affected his sight and nerves so he can't see. And if he can see then only shadows.

When he was rescued he also had a broken jaw and they repaired it.
He is a little nervous. He is not wild but he needs someone who will not touch him suddenly.
We touch him and he likes it when we do this, but not suddenly.
He's a big boy.
He is okay with other cats and dogs, no problem at all.
(*)

Sir Drake has now found safety in Haven. It is therefore an absolute requirement that he will have that in his adoptive family. He must be an indoor cat. With attention to his safety in the home, such as window security.

In itself there is nothing wrong with him going outside as long as there is a guarantee of safety. Just as he can now safely go outside in the closed outdoor areas of Haven.

Like all SHE cats he has received his basic vaccinations and rabies. He is microchipped. He has been dewormed and flea treated. Sir Drake has also been sterilized and is litter box trained.

Don’t let the fact that he’s blind stop you. Sir Drake went blind as an adult and it was a big shock to him. Many cats – at least in Haven – have lost their sight. And they’re adapting. Surprisingly well. – It’ll be okay.

Can you imagine giving this big boy who has been through so much a safe home and a place in your heart? Then take a look at our adoption procedure. – And please, don't hesitate to contact us.

Isn’t now the time in your life to take on such a responsibility? Maybe you know someone else who would be a good match for Salam? – Sharing is sweet!

(*) The profile texts here are written based on the information provided by Koky, the manager of Safe Haven Egypt. For the profile of Sir Drake we give you exceptionally just the information as Koky herself formulated it about Sir Drake.
