Stevie

Without speaking ill of the other cats at Haven….we have a very special cat on offer here!

Stevie arrived in Haven in March 2024. We estimate he was born around summer 2023. So he is just over a year old.

As you can see, he is an exceptionally handsome boy.

But his greatest asset is that he is extremely friendly. He is playful and very affectionate. He allows to be picked up.

Stevie's eyes have been removed. The fact that he is blind is really nothing to worry about. Yes, he will bump into everything at first. But very quickly, blind cats move with such confidence through spaces that you would think they can see.

He has received his basic vaccinations and his rabies vaccine. He has been dewormed and given the flea treatment. Stevie is microchipped and neutered.

And of course, litter box trained.

He would fit in well with other cats and cat friendly dogs. And certainly with children. That because he is very gentle. He is a very sweet boy.

Stevie on the street

Stevie has left the dangers of the streets of Cairo and paid the entrance fee to Haven with his sight. He has found safety now and it should stay that way. An adopter should be able to offer Stevie a safe living environment.

Therefore he must be an indoor cat. Or if he does go outside it must be in a controlled, secure manner. Stevie must never be allowed back on the streets.

Stevie has all the makings of someone's best friend. He needs a person who can appreciate the affection he can give and give him affection back.

Are you Stevie's person? – Read on our adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us.

Angel

Angel arriving at Haven

Upon arrival at Haven, Angel was literally a broken cat. Probably hit by a car.

Her jaw was broken and she had severe injuries to her eyes. Her jaw healed well and is fine now. Her eyes were not.

Angel is blind.

We estimate Angel to be about 4 years old. She was an adult when she came to Haven. And so also when she went blind. Angel has a hard time with that. She is 'shy'. A 'no-touching cat'.

That is not absolute. – Koky, the manager of Haven, can sometimes, if she can take the time, gently pet her a little.

This makes Koky believe that with an adopter who is patient and can gain Angel's trust, there is potential to make her lose her shyness.

Can Angel become a cuddle cat? Possibly. – But that is not something to promise. With love and patience, much is possible.

An adopter must be able to accept Angel as being 'shy'. What will certainly help is never to forget that a blind cat is blind.

Example of a blind cat that is not sleeping

With a sighted cat you can see directly from the eyes whether it has seen you. Whether it is awake. – With a blind cat it is much more subtle to see whether it is awake or not.

Waking up a sleeping cat and startling it by touching it is not a good way to gain trust. For any cat.

Angel gets along well with other cats and dogs. It is with people that she is on her guard.

Angel doesn't like dry food. She eats wet. She is a fan of chicken and tuna.

Like all Haven cats, Angel has received her basic vaccinations and her rabies vaccine. Deworming and flea treatment. She is microchipped and sterilized. And is litter box trained.

Also standard with all SHE cats;

They came from the evil dangerous world to Haven. When they are adopted it is not to be put back into danger. SHE cats must either be indoor cats or only allowed outside in a secure environment.

We do not want the adopted cat to roam around in the adopter's neighborhood. Not even if 'It's very quiet here, hardly any cars pass by'.

So. – Who wants to give Angel a home? Will you consider this? Check out our adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. Seriously. Everyone involved is doing this for the cats' well-being. You're not going to interrupt.

Doesn’t a cat like Angel fit into your life right now? Maybe someone else you know does? – Sharing this post is caring!

Sir Drake

He is a blind boy.

His name is Sir Drake. He is about 4 years old.
He came to us in August 2023.

He was found by a friend after being hit by a car and she had to take him to the vet to save his life.

He did not lose his life, but unfortunately he did lose his sight.
The eyes are still there but the accident has affected his sight and nerves so he can't see. And if he can see then only shadows.

When he was rescued he also had a broken jaw and they repaired it.
He is a little nervous. He is not wild but he needs someone who will not touch him suddenly.
We touch him and he likes it when we do this, but not suddenly.
He's a big boy.
He is okay with other cats and dogs, no problem at all.
(*)

Sir Drake has now found safety in Haven. It is therefore an absolute requirement that he will have that in his adoptive family. He must be an indoor cat. With attention to his safety in the home, such as window security.

In itself there is nothing wrong with him going outside as long as there is a guarantee of safety. Just as he can now safely go outside in the closed outdoor areas of Haven.

Like all SHE cats he has received his basic vaccinations and rabies. He is microchipped. He has been dewormed and flea treated. Sir Drake has also been sterilized and is litter box trained.

Don’t let the fact that he’s blind stop you. Sir Drake went blind as an adult and it was a big shock to him. Many cats – at least in Haven – have lost their sight. And they’re adapting. Surprisingly well. – It’ll be okay.

Can you imagine giving this big boy who has been through so much a safe home and a place in your heart? Then take a look at our adoption procedure. – And please, don't hesitate to contact us.

Isn’t now the time in your life to take on such a responsibility? Maybe you know someone else who would be a good match for Salam? – Sharing is sweet!

(*) The profile texts here are written based on the information provided by Koky, the owner of Safe Haven Egypt. For the profile of Sir Drake we give you exceptionally just the information as Koky herself formulated it about Sir Drake.

Tofu

In late June 2023, Koky, the founder of SHE, found a dirty, long-haired white cat in a supermarket parking lot.

It was clear that this was an abandoned house cat that would not survive long on the streets. Koky took him home immediately. At that time our British caretaker Deborah was visiting. In order to keep him separated from Koky's own cats, Tofu spent the night in Deborah's guest room (see last photo).

Despite being in an unfamiliar place with a stranger, he showed no signs of stress and was very friendly. Deborah decided to call him 'Tofu'.

Apart from being dirty and having matted fur, Tofu was otherwise unharmed. So Koky and Deborah took him straight to Haven the next day. There he was treated for fleas, dewormed, vaccinated and neutered. He also went through a 3 week quarantine period before being allowed to join the other cats in the garden apartment.

Tofu is now between 3 and 4 years old (as of October 2024) and in perfect health. His long, silky coat has become a bright white again, beautifully complemented by his striking amber eyes.

He is a gentle and relaxed cat. He does not seem to be at all impressed by the large group of cats in the garden apartment, where the two shelter dogs also roam freely.

What really makes Tofu special is his loving nature!

He loves to be cuddled and pampered by everyone. Although he can be encouraged to play, he enjoys all the affection he can get the most. Unfortunately, in a large shelter like ours, there is not enough time for the individual attention that cats like Tofu need. He also needs regular grooming to keep his lush coat in top condition and his healthy skin.

Who wants to share their couch with this dream cat and give Tofu a loving and caring home that will last a lifetime?

Tofu is perfectly happy being an indoor cat and is not allowed to roam freely outdoors. Of course, this does not mean he would not like access to a screened balcony, catio or escape-proof garden.

Tofu is ready to fly to the EU, UK, Canada or the US. In some cases adoption to Switzerland is also possible. He will travel with his vaccination booklet and a rabies titer certificate from an accredited German lab.

If you are interested, then view our adoption procedure. And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.

Ryan

In June 2023, a video of a paralyzed cat began circulating on Facebook.

She was thought to have been hit by a car, a tragic fate shared by many cats on the streets of Cairo. Koky, the founder of SHE, immediately sprang into action and organised the rescue.

On the scene it turned out that the injured cat had two kittens. Somehow she had managed to crawl back to her babies. So all three were brought to the Haven.

The mother cat was able to nurse her kittens for a while, but unfortunately died, as did one of the two male kittens. Koky took the remaining kitten home and nursed it by hand. When the little tomcat was healthy again, he was allowed to move to the Haven. His first sponsor named him Ryan.

Now Ryan is about one year old (October 2024) and has grown into a happy little guy. He clearly enjoyed his photoshoot!

With his glossy gray-white coat, slender build and oriental facial shape, Ryan is a real beauty — and his slightly squinted gaze is just adorable.

At the Haven, Ryan gets along with everyone – the other cats, the two shelter dogs, the staff and visitors. But most of all, he loves sitting next to Koky and sniffing all the cuddles. In his future home, he will definitely form a deep bond with his people. He would also like to have other feline friends to play with.

Indoor living is a must for Ryan, as it is for all SHE cats. However, he would be thrilled with access to a secure balcony, catio or cat-friendly garden to safely enjoy the outdoors. He is quite athletic, so safe spaces are important!

Now for the practical details: Ryan is flea free, dewormed, vaccinated and neutered. He also has a microchip and a certified rabies titer test.

Ryan is ready to travel to the EU, UK, Canada or the US. In some cases adoption to Switzerland is also possible. Of course he comes with all the necessary paperwork.

Did Ryan win your heart? If you are interested in adopting him, please check out to our adoption process. And don't hesitate to contact us.

Rye

This is a temporary reserved cat. This status lasts for a maximum of one week.
This is so that an interested party can think about a possible adoption proposal. It is still possible to apply as a reserve.

June 2024, Rye on the Street

A boy who was a skinny little rascal well on his way to dying on the streets, like so many others, was Rye. We suspect that Rye was an ex-house cat.

But now he is a Havenkat. And is in much better shape.

When he arrived in Haven he was very reserved, broken.

Focus was on his physical well-being, making sure he had good food and the necessary medical treatment.

He has received his vaccinations against common cat diseases and rabies. Deworming and flea treatment. Is chipped and neutered.

He is estimated to be 2 to 3 years old. (September 2024).

Rye has regained his trust in people thanks to the good care and he started to show his sweet personality.

Today he loves to be carried around like a teddy bear by Koky, the founder of SHE, and he even posed like a pro during his photoshoot!

Rye is a gentle cat who gets along well with both people and other animals in the shelter.

The transformation Rye has undergone is remarkable in every way. Just look at this beautiful ginger cat! With his thick, fluffy coat and gorgeous brown eyes, he has become a real beauty.

Rye is looking for a safe forever home. A balcony with cat netting or enclosed garden would be great.

What he needs most of all is a new family that will not abandon him again.

Is that you? – Take a look our adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to ask questions.

You're not Rye's new best friend? Maybe you know someone else who has that potential? – Sharing is caring!

Nicky

Our girl Nicky's story started on the streets, like most Haven cats. The life of a street cat is full of dangers. In her case, the crucial danger was a collision with a motorcycle.

Her back legs were broken and she also suffered paralysis in her rear end.

There was a woman who would sometimes give Nicky something to eat. She noticed the condition Nicky was in and contacted Haven to ask if they could help. – And they could.

Nicky has now had months to regain her strength. And recover. She has lost her left hind leg. Her paralysis has not improved. But it could have been worse.

Nicky is fortunately mobile. See the video below. She can use her right hind leg to stand up. This allows Nicky to use the litter box. So she is independent.

Nicky has now received her vaccinations. This against common cat diseases and Rabies. Has had anti-flea treatment and deworming treatment. And is also chipped and sterilized.

So now she has become a three-legged girl who has to rely on her front legs to get around. She can crawl onto a chair but otherwise stays at ground level.

Socially Nicky is a bit shy at first. But after a while when she knows you and knows you can be trusted she is friendly and you can touch her.

She is good with other cats and cat-friendly dogs.

It seems obvious but we have to mention it; She must never be in danger again. Her adopter must be able to guarantee her a safe home.

If you would like to investigate whether adopting Nicky is an option, please take a look at our adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us.

Aila and Ava

On June 10, 2024, Koky, the founder of Haven, saw a couple drop off two animal boxes in front of the shelter with several cats crammed together.

The couple said they had been breeding cats and were leaving Egypt. They had sold all the kittens and now there were five adult cats left. Koky could accept the cats or they would release them on the streets.

Since breeding cats would not be able to survive on the streets, Koky had no choice and took them to Haven. There were three red cats, a white cat and a red tomcat, all longhaired. One of the red cats was pregnant and had her kittens at the shelter.

Two of these cats love each other very much, Aila and Ava. These two are adopted together.

Both are beautiful, fluffy red cats and, like forest cats, have tufts in their ears.

Due to their coat color they can be considered a rarity, as only 20% of all ginger cats are female. In addition, their amber eyes make their appearance very special. Ava has a small white bib.

They are both estimated to be around 3 years old. Veterinary examinations have not revealed any health problems.

In Haven they get along very well with their own kind, but they also love people. They are both very friendly and love human attention.

Aila and Ava are already sterilized, deflead, dewormed, chipped and vaccinated. They can fly to Europe, Canada and the US. They both have a vaccination passport and an official veterinary certificate of active protection against rabies.

These two beauties are pure indoor cats. Sure, they can enjoy the benefits of a balcony with a screen, a fully enclosed enclosure or a cat-proof garden, but they are not allowed to roam freely.

Did Aila and Ava touch your heart? Then read the information about our adoption procedure.

If you have questions, please feel free to contact us.

Karamello

My name is Karamello.

When I was one month old my mother was poisoned. I was next to her trying to get some milk. I didn't know that she had died and that there was no more milk and that I was not safe anymore.

A young lady saw me and took me home, she took care of me and loved me very much. I felt like I had a mother again. She brought me delicious food and gave me lots of hugs.

I was so happy with her but life wasn't fair to me again. My friend had finished high school and had to go to college when she left home.

Her family took me away and left me alone on the roof to suffer from the cold and loneliness. They didn't care for me or give me any food.

My friend came back from college and found me on the roof and her family told her I wasn't welcome back home anymore. So she put me on Facebook to try and find me a safe place. She eventually found me a safe place where I live now in Haven.

I came to them in May. They all love me here and gave me a new name Karamello to have a new life. Now I am looking for a loving forever home. I would like to have a home where it is quieter, with much less cats than in Haven.

I like attention from people and like to sit on people's laps. But there are limits; I don't crawl on people's necks like some cats here in Haven like to do.

I am about a year and a half old, vaccinated, chipped and neutered. I use the litter box. I promise to come and check on my human when he is on the toilet. I listened to the advice of the other cats in Haven and know what my duties are as a house cat.

I can fly to the US, UK, Canada and Europe. Is there an adopter for me?

I have suffered enough in my life and I want a family that will consider me a family member and I will live with them for the rest of my life.

Minnie

Minnie on the street

End of November 2023; a report about a cat whose kittens were taken by children and is whining. The day after a report of two kittens whose mother was run over and are also whining.

All three are admitted to Haven. One of the two kittens survives. And so does the mother cat. She is named Minnie by her first sponsor.

Minnie had an infection in her left eye that medication could not save. It was removed and closed.

Before her surgery

We now introduce you to the beautiful friendly Minnie. She is very, very sweet. Very affectionate. She likes to sit in the garden and enjoy.

It is estimated that she was born around the summer of 2022. That makes Minnie currently a 2 year old.

Minnie is ready to go to her forever home. She has received her basic vaccinations, including Rabies. She is microchipped and spayed. Minnie has received her deworming and flea treatment. And fear not; even with only one eye, Minnie can find the litter box.

As a former street cat, we attach great importance to the safety of our cats. Therefore, Minnie must be an indoor cat or only come outside in a closed, secure garden.

Do you see Minnie as a fit for your family? Then read on the adoption procedure. And don't hesitate to contact us with all your questions.
