A very significant number of the cats at Safe Haven Egypt are blind. In most cases, these are cats that are admitted as kittens in a terrible condition, full of infections.
Antibiotics can't solve anything. Many of those kittens are or will become blind.
A smaller group of cats come in as adult blind cats. These are typically cats that have suffered a serious accident. Hit by a car or motorcycle. Attacked by dogs. Or beaten by people. Often they also have a broken jaw.
Depending on the situation, the blind cats still have their defective eye or it has been surgically removed. If the presence of the eye poses a risk of infection, it will be removed. Usually, the eye sockets are then also sewn shut. Although that is not always really necessary.
A blind cat is perfectly adaptable. This is a form of disability that requires little to no adjustment from the adopter in caring for their blind cat.
